Solidarity Research Center is seeking a research assistant to work on our Los Angeles social movement mapping project on a part-time, short-term basis. This is a remote position. The social movement mapping project seeks to identify protagonists, understand the scope of their work, and place them in the landscape of an emergent municipalist movement. The research will inform the launch of people's movement assemblies across the city in 2023.

The research assistant will contribute to the social movement mapping project by conducting literature reviews and scans, scheduling and participating in interviews, and coding interview transcripts. The hourly rate for this position starts at $25 and the time commitment is maximum five hours a week from November 2022 to January 2023.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge and experience in social movements in Los Angeles
  • Proficiency in Google Docs and interest in learning other platforms such as Calendly, Otter, and Notion
  • At least one year of research experience preferred
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a small research team
  • Excellent communication skills in verbal and written formats
  • Keen eye for detail and organization
  • Passion for social justice, racial justice, and economic justice
  • Interest in municipalism
