Our Story
Background
LA2050 is a community-guided initiative driving and tracking progress toward a shared vision for the future of Los Angeles. We achieve this through research and reporting, digital and physical engagement, as well as local grantmaking.
Vision
We believe in the power of Angelenos to shape the future of our region. We as residents, organizations, stakeholders, and policymakers can work together toward a more successful Los Angeles – one that reaches our region’s incredible potential and is equitable, thriving, engaged, and empowering. Join us.
Our Story
LA2050 was launched in 2011 by the Goldhirsh Foundation to inspire an outbreak of civic activism and to develop a roadmap for the future of the Los Angeles region. We engaged tens of thousands of Angelenos and sought the input of a group of academic and advocacy exports in forming our vision and outlining our five goals – to make Los Angeles the best place to connect, create, learn, live, and play. Since that time, we have leveraged our financial, human, and social capital to drive progress.
We make investments of financial capital via the LA2050 Grants Challenge to support organizations working to make progress on the five goals. We deploy human capital through partnerships to test more strategies, scale successful innovations, and bring people and solutions together. We utilize social capital through community events and digital activations that engage Angelenos in making an impact.
Over the past decade, the LA2050 community has converged around this message of optimism and the opportunity to make Los Angeles better for all. Hundreds of thousands of Angelenos have contributed to the development and growth of our shared vision. Our 110 LA2050 Grants Challenge winners have put that vision into action on the ground and in communities. We’ve seen progress on our five goals and our impact metrics. With this vision, LA2050 has received accolades from the likes of the Anthem Awards, Telly Awards, Communicator Awards, the County of Los Angeles, California, and the Los Angeles Business Journal.
We look forward to continuing to make an impact and celebrating the brighter future for Los Angeles that we are all creating, together.
