What is your understanding of the issue that you are seeking to address?

The issue of Affordable Housing and Homelessness is largely attributed to lack of readiness for sustaining housing and inconsistent case management. Comprehensive Access to daily necessities, reliable counseling, accountability in navigating referrals and even the use of available resources that already exist within a community without a conflict of interest has largely contributed to unhoused individuals being served ineffectively. The absence of this resource development model has led to distrust among the unhoused community due to inconsistencies and a confusing network process for accessing resources. Many unhoused individuals are being recycled through a process of referral, action and follow up, due to a lack of support for their practical, mental and spiritual needs. This causes a stressful cycle of recovery and decline that is detrimental to one’s physical and mental health. This cycle also negatively impacts the morale of professional and community service providers.

Describe the project, program, or initiative this grant will support to address the issue.

Soul Saving Productions Community Outreach Truck is an initiative to expand upon the existing activities of the organization. Allowing the organization to mobilize services and implement existing program models across Los Angeles County by establishing contact with individuals who need assistance and providing a resource that will enhance our ability to follow up with those individuals on a consistent basis providing a continuum of care consistent with recovery from the hardships of life. The community outreach truck will help us mobilize not only resources but case management. The established community relationships of Soul Saving Productions greatly increase our capacity to provide information, resources, referrals and informed follow up to effectively meet the needs of multiple communities using existing and established organizations already serving the community. Navigating these resources and having daily essential items to remain focus on the recovery process is where SSP Community Outreach Truck will be a revolutionary solution to the Homeless Crisis.

Describe how Los Angeles County will be different if your work is successful.

Providing everyday necessities is just one challenge facing the unhoused community. Many residents experience limited access to resources due to transportation issues or mobility constraints. During outreach, we often find that many unhoused individuals lack access to water and food and cannot obtain it themselves. SSP Being able to travel to encampments, neighborhoods, gathering spots and even missions. To provide necessary items for life, Food, and resources will stabilize a population to be able to navigate themselves through the recovery process and this will then decrease the homeless population because most of the unhoused population are long term residents of skid row and other areas due to a lack of guidance and support through the process of recovery, and reacclimating oneself back into society. 1000 clients served through successful case management in a 3 phase 90-day program over a 12-month period. 5000 + clients reached and served through outreach efforts.
