What is your understanding of the issue that you are seeking to address?
Grandview prides itself in providing exceptional SUD treatment while providing a safe environment for healing. We offer various levels of treatment including detox, residential, outpatient, intensive outpatient, recovery bridge housing, sober living and medicated assisted treatment. We’ve found that men in our care, given the opportunity and support, extend their stay. Providing our clients with the opportunity to stay close, gain skills, and be confident in their ability is an ideal transition from treatment to gainful employment.
The majority of our clients enter treatment unemployed, meaning they do not have a job to go back to upon completion of treatment. Many of our men are also looking to build new skills and learn a different trade, as their previous employment was unsafe or a conduit for substance use. Developing our own business will allow Grandview to train and hire from within, providing a safe environment for continued growth by giving our men new opportunities.
Describe the project, program, or initiative this grant will support to address the issue.
Recycle, Refurbish, Recover Thrift (RRRT) will introduce a new thrift store to the Pasadena community and provide employment for Grandview clients. RRRT will provide multiple training opportunities developing fundamental skills: punctuality, presentation, customer service - all key attributes for reentry into the workforce. With the success of collecting in-kind donations and items for our bi-annual yard sales, we've realized the potential of having a storefront to provide increased revenue and job opportunities, both aligning with Grandview's mission. Our plan includes three avenues: sourcing, e-commerce and brick and mortar. Clients will be trained in all three aspects.
Soft skills to running enterprise-based POS Software to Logistics will be deeply developed. The purpose of our social enterprise retail store is built on good business practices. First, we aim to capitalize on the ever-growing number of in-kind products donated to our organization from local communities like La Canada Flintridge, S. Pasadena, San Marino and surrounding neighborhoods. Fortifying our presence in Pasadena will enable us to interact, capture, and grow a new and diverse customer base, allowing us to serve more people in ways beyond treatment.
We will include Customer Retention Software (CRM), which will capture and add thousands of customers to our database, allowing us to capture a demographic of individuals interested in supporting the mission of our treatment program.
Describe how Los Angeles County will be different if your work is successful.
The success of RRRT means more individuals in recovery will be rejoining the workforce with confidence and purpose, reducing relapse rates and dependence on public services, creating more stability for individuals and all of Los Angeles County. Stable employment supports long-term recovery, reduces homelessness and recidivism, improving public health and well-being. RRRT will create greater equity in access to employment opportunities for a community that is historically underserved. RRRT employees will gain a transferable skill set preparing them for employment in e-commerce, retail and entrepreneurship.
Thrifting has become popular and is also an affordable avenue for the community to access much needed items at reduced cost. Being able to provide this resource to our community, will help our clients to feel connected to the local community, giving them purpose and helping them with their goal for long-term recovery.
