What is your understanding of the issue that you are seeking to address?

Liddo Grannies Touch seeks to address the critical issue of housing insecurity and reintegration challenges faced by individuals returning to their homes in South Los Angeles and surrounding areas. The organization recognizes that these individuals often encounter significant barriers to securing stable, affordable housing, which can impede their successful reintegration into the community.
Without proper support, many returnees struggle to find suitable housing options, navigate complex housing systems, afford initial move-in costs, and maintain stable housing while working to build financial independence. This housing instability can lead to cycles of displacement, homelessness, and reduced opportunities for sustainable community reintegration.
Through our comprehensive approach combining affordable housing solutions, navigation services, financial assistance, and ongoing case management.

Describe the project, program, or initiative this grant will support to address the issue.

The grant will support our Homecoming Housing Stability Program, a comprehensive initiative designed to address housing insecurity among individuals returning to South Los Angeles communities. This program provides a multi-faceted approach to ensure successful community reintegration through stable housing.
Our program includes:
Housing Navigation Services: Dedicated housing specialists who work one-on-one with returnees to identify affordable housing options, communicate with landlords, and overcome barriers to housing access including credit issues or past evictions.

Financial Assistance Package: Short to medium-term rental subsidies and move-in cost coverage (security deposits, first/last month's rent, utility connections) for qualified participants who have returned home within 18 months.

Stabilization Support: Comprehensive case management services that connect participants to employment opportunities, benefits enrollment, financial literacy training, and other community resources to increase income sustainability.

Landlord Engagement: Building relationships with property owners willing to rent to our participants, including providing landlord incentives and mediation services to ensure successful tenancies.

Housing Retention Follow-up: Ongoing support for up to 18 months to monitor housing stability and provide intervention when challenges arise, gradually transitioning participants to full self-sufficiency.

Describe how Los Angeles County will be different if your work is successful.

Reduced homelessness and housing instability among returning community members, creating more stable neighborhoods with fewer individuals cycling through crisis systems.

Stronger family reunification as stable housing enables returning individuals to rebuild relationships with children, parents, and extended family members.

Decreased recidivism rates as housing stability correlates directly with reduced justice system involvement, creating safer communities.

Reduced public costs associated with emergency services, shelters, hospitalization, and incarceration that often result from housing instability.

Expanded affordable housing inventory through our landlord engagement efforts, benefiting not only our direct participants but the broader community facing housing challenges.

A replicable model for housing-focused reintegration that can be adopted across other Los Angeles County communities and beyond.
