Bravura: Musical Expression and Wellness
We have seen a growing number of young students struggle to connect with others, express themselves confidently, and navigate social environments. Many feel more at ease behind screens than in face-to-face settings. Bravura is a holistic education class designed to empower students as expressive, confident, and self-aware artists. Through a rich curriculum, students learn how to lose their fear on stage, communicate openly, and cultivate wellness practices that support lifelong artistry.

What is your understanding of the issue that you are seeking to address?
In recent years, a growing number of students have struggled to connect with others, express themselves confidently, and navigate social environments—challenges that were only deepened by the isolation of the pandemic and months of virtual learning. Music remains a powerful emotional outlet, but traditional lessons and ensembles are no longer enough. Many young musicians carry anxiety, perfectionism, and pressure from both school and the online world, making it difficult to take creative risks or feel safe being themselves.
Another unspoken reality often missing in education and music training is attention to mental and physical well-being. Developing healthy habits early on is essential. By helping students develop self-awareness, emotional resilience, and healthy habits early on, we will lay the foundation for artistic growth and a sustainable, fulfilling life—whether or not they pursue music professionally.
Describe the project, program, or initiative this grant will support to address the issue.
Bravura is a response to the emotional and social needs of this generation. It’s a space where students learn to move, speak, laugh, express—and feel. Students will learn that being an artist isn’t just about sounding good—it’s about knowing yourself, showing up fully, and connecting with others.
Bravura is for the student who needs a little courage. For the one bursting with creativity. For every young person who needs to remember they belong just as they are.

SOL-LA is beginning with a pilot program on our Saturday campus. This program will benefit our community school students, fellowship recipients from low-income families who will be attending SOL-LA tuition-free, and scholarship students who apply for financial aid or are from our partner Title-I school.
Our plans for expansion involve offering workshops from our rotating guest artists at in-school music programs throughout West Los Angeles, free of charge.
SOL-LA's teachers will be paid to attend the courses as well, and will be able to continue to train their own students in what they learn throughout the program, and parents will be invited to observe.
