The Goldhirsh Foundation and its LA2050 initiative announced today that Lauren Song has joined the staff of the organization, in the role of Design Fellow.

“From day one, LA2050 has included designers on our team – something that remains all too rare in the social impact sector,” Tara Roth, president of the Goldhirsh Foundation, said. “We are delighted to welcome Lauren as we continue to invest in the designers of the future, particularly those who can tell a story with a deeper purpose.”

Song holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Illustration with an emphasis in Design from ArtCenter College of Design. She is devoted to engaging in her community, utilizing art and design that feels human to push for equity and inclusion, and aspiring for a brighter future for Los Angeles.

“It’s an honor to be joining a team so devoted to aiding the vast communities of Los Angeles,” Song said. “I love how LA2050 really embraces those who feel underrepresented and fights for them. They inspire me to continue to show up for my community and create art and design that results in change.”

As LA2050 Design Fellow, Song will use her talents to help conceptualize public information and communication projects. In addition, she will focus on the graphic design and implementation of the campaign for the LA2050 Grants Challenge. The LA2050 Grants Challenge is an open call for ideas to make LA the best place to learn, create, play, connect, and live. Last year, more than $2.6 million was awarded to 37 organizations to implement their winning ideas – $1 million from the Goldhirsh Foundation, and the rest from a quartet of leading foundation partners.

Through the LA2050 Grants Challenge, members of the public vote online for the issues that will receive grant funding. Since the initiative’s inception, more than 2,500 proposals have been submitted from approximately 1,800 LA-based social impact organizations. All of those organizations are available for anyone to search, view, and donate to at the LA2050 Ideas Hub.
