Zocalo Public Square

Zocalo Public Square connects people to ideas and to each other by examining essential questions in an accessible, broad-minded, and democratic spirit. We seek to create a welcoming intellectual space and engage a new and diverse generation in the public square. We pursue our mission by convening events and by publishing ideas journalism.

    California 175

As California turns 175, Zócalo presents a suite of free public programs that envision what the state can be for the next 175 years. In Los Angeles, we’re hosting a bus tour with Metro, walking tours with LA Conservancy, a walk and talk at the 6th St Bridge, and a salon at Union Station with CARS LA. These programs will invite civic leaders, scholars, artists, and Angelenos from all walks of life to dream, discuss, and experience the many different ways we can use transit to connect to the city—and each other.

    What Connects Us

To celebrate Zocalo's 20th birthday we are embarking on What Connects Us, a robust series of programs and digital content that will introduce new approaches to the critical conversations Zocalo is known for, catalyzed by cultural experiences. The series will feature a kaleidoscope of perspectives on the ideas, places, and questions that are central to the approachable intellectual space Zocalo has created in Los Angeles, and, like everything we do, will be entirely free and open to the public, with as few barriers to participation as possible.
