About this job

The Senior Manager of Environmental Education and Outdoor Equity will support the management and implementation of TreePeople’s range of Environmental Education programs, which include workforce development. They will also support the management of a portfolio of projects, grants, and/or agreements to support environmental literacy initiatives through high-quality, rigorous programming for K-12 students as well as the general public.

Roles & responsibilities

  • Manage, supervise, and evaluate EE/OE Program Managers to ensure compliance with the Employee Handbook, contract deliverables, department standards and policies, and other job duties and responsibilities.
  • Develop, update, and implement EE/OE programming in accordance with the TreePeople brand, departmental vision, and CA State Standards.
  • Manage the development of all education program materials (e.g., toolkits, project guides, slides, activities, flyers, tour scripts, etc.).
  • Support the development and implementation of a comprehensive outreach plan that supports equitable programmatic distribution across TreePeople and funder priority regions. Includes supporting geostrategy and Asana workflow to target and assess outreach.
  • Create and lead comprehensive training programs for EE/OE team members.
  • Support the development of annual budgets for various projects/grants and oversee spending throughout the course of TreePeople’s fiscal year to ensure it is in accordance with the annual budget.
  • Provide leadership in the development of project status reports, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and contract compliance, including proactive solutions, that guarantees adherence to contractual obligations.
  • Work closely with the Director of Environmental Education and the Director of Environmental Education Strategy and Partnerships, contributing to the strategic assessment and enhancement of EE/OE programs by providing analytical support, identifying areas for improvement, and collaborating with key contacts to implement best practices.
  • Support the strengthening of relationships with funders and strategic partners by providing high-level coordination, supporting communication and engagement efforts.
  • Enhance team efficiency by leading the onboarding process and managing operational systems to optimize workflow, ensure consistency, and promote long-term efficiency.
  • Participate and represent TreePeople at meetings, fundraising, marketing, membership and volunteer events.
  • Maintain partnerships with local community-based organizations, school districts, and other community stakeholders to expand TreePeople’s social and environmental impact.
  • Present and facilitate information sharing in front of public audiences.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Strong foundation of environmental education concepts and best practices, including the Next Generation Science Standards, as well as place-based, experiential, and social emotional learning.
  • Demonstrated experience with staff supervision, project management, and working with schools and/or school districts on environmental projects.
  • Strong leadership, team-building, and problem-solving skills.
  • Master ’s-level education required.
  • High computer literacy, including familiarity with Microsoft Suite, Google Suite, Salesforce, Asana, and other internet-based programs.
  • Organized, strong work ethic, friendly, intelligent, proactive, and a quick learner.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills: engaging, listening, negotiating, public speaking, and writing.
  • Proven understanding of local ecological systems and awareness of current environmental issues impacting diverse communities throughout Southern California, including the impacts of urban development and green solutions, plus Countywide
  • Implementation of resolutions on climate literacy and/or sustainability.
  • Experience working with partner organizations and public agencies in Los Angeles.
  • Knowledge of the Los Angeles County structure is preferred.
  • The ability and willingness to visit school sites across L.A. County and communicate with school district personnel, administrators, educators, and youth via telephone, email, and fax. This includes having a valid California Driver's License and reliable transportation.
  • Preference will be given to candidates fluent in Spanish.
