The first mile of learning, engages, and educates individuals, businesses and communities through curated platforms on the human face of homelessness, its myths and realities. Our programming brings faces, stories and powerful relevant data to better inform communities on the root causes of homelessness.

About this job

The Giving Spirit (www.thegivingspirit.org) is seeking applicants for an Educational Program Associate. The Giving Spirit Youth Council creates opportunities for youth to engage in meaningful civic engagement and community-based leadership experiences to help develop the next generation of impactful leadership.

Roles & responsibilities

This position engages and guides youth in authentic opportunities to explore relevant and systemic issues related to poverty and homeless in Greater Los Angeles and to create and enact direct service opportunities. This includes the development of an annual signature service project. This position supports The Giving Spirit’s dual missions of education and engagement across communities and to improve regional youth development and leadership.

The Educational Program Associate will be instrumental in implementing the Youth Council annual agenda and collaborative outcomes which includes moderating weekly meetings, supervision during Outreach events and community activities activated by the Educational Programming and Community Awareness team.

These may include communication with local school staff in support of Giving Spirit Service Clubs, presentations to local governments and businesses, organization of K-12 educational and experiential activities and local school outreach. The Associate also leads in expanding relationships with local K-12 schools.

Qualifications

• Education: A minimum of a high school diploma and 4-years paid experience – OR – college degree and 2 years of paid or volunteer experience preferably in an area related to Youth and/or Adult Education (i.e. Youth and Community Development, Youth Sports, or related areas)

• 21 years of age or older

• Experience, acknowledgement and sensitivity to cultural differences in a work environment

• Demonstrated ability to effectively plan projects, manage and deploy teams

• Successful and experience in setting and achieving measurable goals and objectives

• Demonstrated experience planning, executing and evaluating programs that achieve successful outcomes

• Ability and means to travel, proof of liability and property damage insurance on vehicle if utilizing personal vehicle

• Demonstrated excellence in written, oral and interpersonal and digital communications

• Ability to public interact with all stakeholders

• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as a team member

• Desire to Learn, Serve, and Engage with those experiencing Homelessness

• Proficiency in MS Office and MacOS

• Proficiency in working within multiple social media platforms

• Skill in Canva and/or Adobe Photoshop a plus
