Rainbow Labs is a nonprofit with a mission to embolden Queer and Gender Nonconforming Youth to discover, curate, and experiment with the elements of a fulfilled life through community building and the lived experiences of mentors. We are launching a new kind of youth programming for QGNC youth by QGNC youth. Youth aged 12-18 will have access to different types of mentoring activities throughout the year. Youth development professionals and mentors both conduct activities virtually and in person.

In partnership with schools and after school programs across Los Angeles County, Rainbow Labs offers free mentoring programming for LGBTQ+ youth ages 12-18. Volunteer Manager will start no earlier than October 1, 2023. This position will work from home about 60-75% of the time with “in field time” dedicated to organizing stakeholders, meeting with individuals and companies, and attending the existing Rainbow Labs’ programming.
Rainbow Labs seeks an individual to join our team in the role of the Volunteer Manager. This position will be the primary contact for all activities and communications related to Rainbow Labs’ mentors/volunteers. Our mentors/volunteers are one of the most essential parts of our programs – providing supportive, caring relationships to our LGBTQ+ youth. All of our programs are either facilitated through group or one-on-one mentoring opportunities. This position will work to conduct outreach for mentors/volunteers, manage applications and systems, support mentor/volunteer training, and provide day-to-day support for all our mentors/volunteers across all our programs. The work of this position is supported by an AmeriCorps Volunteer Generation Fund grant.
Compensation:
• Salary (DOE): $50,000 – $55,000
• Professional development through weekly trainings, skills learned in service, experience in a nonprofit environment.
• Reimbursement for cell phone usage ($50/month)

Roles & responsibilities
• Outreach: Conduct outreach for new mentors/volunteers to grow our mentor database engaging Rainbow Labs’ existing network, attending conferences and/or community meetings, and host virtual and/or in person information sessions.
• Mentor/Volunteer Applications, Screening & Selection: Review applications, check references and interview potential individual mentors.
• Mentor/Volunteer Training & Orientation Process: Manage comprehensive orientation and training process for new mentors/volunteers that includes:
o Information about mentoring/volunteering at Rainbow Labs (manual, website.)
o Collaborate with content training facilitators.
o Identify and provide on-going optional training opportunities for mentors/volunteers.
• Mentor/Volunteer Program Operations: Implement current mentor /volunteer systems and operations, and work with the Program Operations team to address anything that should be updated to ensure more streamlined, smooth processes. Additionally, work closely with all program and department managers to periodically assess needs for mentors expertise and level of mentor/volunteer staffing.
• Mentor/Volunteer Communication: Implement on-going communication with existing, prospective, and previous mentors/volunteers through a volunteer newsletter, Slack channels, and social media.
• Recognition & Retention: Develop appreciation program and help coordinate social gatherings/recognition events.
• Program Evaluation/Data Collection: Implement and collect data on mentor/volunteer’s perspective on Rainbow Labs programming through post-program surveys and interviews.
Qualifications
• 2-3 years’ experience in fundraising and/or volunteer programs
• Experience working with volunteers
• Experience planning and managing small events
• Experience managing federal grants, a plus
• Knowledge of federal grant requirements, a plus
• Passionate commitment to Rainbow Labs mission and vision
• Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience)
• Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
• Exceptional writing skills
• Strong communication skills
• Strong organizational skills
• High degree of initiative and spirit of service
• The ability to travel within and outside California for outreach and training events
• AmeriCorps experience, a plus
• Financial management and site visit or audit experience, a plus
