About this organization
Inner City Law Center (ICLC) is a nonprofit law firm on Skid Row in Downtown Los Angeles. We are looking for extraordinary people to help us end homelessness in Los Angeles. Founded on the fundamental principle that every person should always be treated with dignity and respect, ICLC fights for justice for low-income tenants, working-poor families, people experiencing homelessness, people living with HIV/AIDS, people who are disabled, and homeless veterans.
About this job
ICLC is part of the groundbreaking Right to Counsel Coalition and countywide Stay Housed initiative that brings together more than 25 legal service providers and community-based organizations to prevent homelessness by defending homes.
With its focus on eviction defense services, the Tenant Defense Project collaborates with partners throughout California on the Tenant Power Toolkit, an innovative, web-based tool that allows California tenants to prepare and file answers and other initial documents in their eviction cases before they secure legal representation. In collaboration with key partners that include the Debt Collective, the LA Tenants Union, and Inland County Legal Services, the team helps promote and expand this critical tool, while providing full scope representation to low-income tenant users in LA County.
The Volunteer and Outreach Coordinator will have a key role in expanding the team’s capacity to support Toolkit users at the start of their eviction cases. Their primary responsibilities include:
Recruiting and training volunteers to assist Tenant Power Toolkit users
Leading and coordinating weekly workshops and one-on-one appointments for Toolkit users needing support to complete their unlawful detainer answers
Conducting outreach to and trainings for partner organizations and community members
Collaborating with project partners on Toolkit-related services and to promote and refine the program
Supporting with all grant reporting requirements including helping compile data
