expand our partnerships across the greater Los Angeles area while deepening our
programming. We seek to hire a Development Director who will help build a solid foundation for H4HLA as we scale.
Hands4Hope LA is seeking an enthusiastic and qualified Development Director to join our team. Reporting to, and working in close collaboration with the CEO and the Executive Director, the Development Director will be leading and implementing H4HLA’s fundraising strategy. This full time Development Director role will be responsible for planning fundraising events, interacting with donors to encourage ongoing contributions and seeking out opportunities for financial support through grants and sponsorships within our surrounding communities in North Hollywood and Van Nuys. In addition to a solid track record in fundraising and development, this position requires leadership, flexibility, creativity, resourcefulness and a passion for promoting the organization to everyone they meet.
Roles & responsibilities
The role of the Development Director will include the following. These roles are not distinct, and will overlap as appropriate:
Development and Fundraising
Work closely with the CEO, Executive Director, Board of Directors and volunteers to achieve
fundraising goals.
Oversee fundraising database and tracking systems.
Lead implementation of H4HLA’s fundraising strategy and ensure funding targets are met.
Meet prospective donors and supporters on a continual basis to establish effective
communications with them.
Grow a major gifts program including identification, cultivation and solicitation of major donors.
Maintain gift recognition programs and donor acknowledgements.
Coordinate fundraising special events.
Direct initial and future crowdfunding campaigns as well as annual fundraising drives.
Secondary responsibilities include; Overseeing grant seeking including research, proposal
writing, and reporting requirements.
Attend staff, Board, Fundraising and Finance Committee meetings as appropriate.
Communications
Contribute to H4HLA’s communications efforts including web-based communication and written materials.
Professionally represent H4HLA to the public through presentations/speaking engagements to share information about H4HLA with the public.
Desired: Use knowledge of social media to enhance H4HLA’s fundraising and publicity.
Strategic Development and Organizational Management
Collaborate with the Executive Director and provide insight into the strategic plan and related
program plans.
Collaborate with the Executive Director to develop and refine budgets.
Collaborate with the Executive Director in managing organizational finances and nonprofit
administration, as needed to ensure good governance and financial accountability.
Perform other duties as assigned to further the mission of H4HLA.
Qualifications
At least 5-10 years of nonprofit sector experience with a solid track record of raising a
sustainable base of funding from individual, institutional and corporate donors.
Preferred: A graduate degree in business, public policy, nonprofit management, international
development or other relevant field.
Required: An undergraduate degree in business, public policy, nonprofit management,
international development or other relevant field.
High level of comfort with donor outreach and solicitation as well as funder research.
Nonprofit management or administration experience with good people skills.
Experience developing and tracking budgets.
Excellent writing skills relevant to the needs of a nonprofit organization communicating with
donors and the general public. Ability to write formally and informally, with professional
language.
Experience working with diverse populations.
Event planning capabilities.
Solid experience with fundraising software – Salesforce, DonorPerfect etc.
Comfort with MS word, excel, web research and social media use.
Maturity, initiative, resourcefulness and an ability to inspire others, creatively problem-solve and work collaboratively with staff and volunteers.
Ability to thrive in a small nonprofit and wear multiple hats, as needed.
Compensation
$50,000 - $55,000
Salary commensurate with experience and other qualifications. Quality benefits package
includes health and PTO. Full Time (32 - 40 hour week)
