Girls Inc. of Los Angeles is seeking a strategic and relational development director to join its dynamic, mission-driven team. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced development professional to oversee and grow the organization’s fundraising function, advancing the mission and impact of Girls Inc. of Los Angeles. Reporting to and working closely with the CEO and supervising the Development Team, the Director of Development will build development capacity, monitor team performance, support individual growth, and directly manage a fundraising portfolio. This leader will work cross-functionally to ensure Girl’s Inc.’s fundraising efforts are aligned with its mission to inspire all girls to be strong, smart, and bold.

Roles & responsibilities

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Lead Development Team

  • Supervise and support team members with setting and monitoring team and individual goals
  • Design growth opportunities and mentor team members
  • Provide functional guidance and manage the flow and coordination of projects and resources
  • Set the stage for effective, respectful collaboration and coordination with Program Team and girls

Oversee a portfolio of $2M in contributed revenue

  • Direct the successful execution and progress tracking of annual fundraising goals
  • Develop and lead strong major gifts campaign with focus on multi-year gifts and manage portfolio of major donors
  • Support execution of signature events including LA Girls Rise and Women’s Leadership Breakfast
  • Develop overall fundraising strategy and implementation plans to grow overall revenue by 3% or more

Design effective fundraising systems and processes to harness and advance leads across the organization

  • Design and implement formal pipeline and moves management approach for cultivation and stewardship across all development pillars (individual giving, corporate, foundation, event)
  • Professionalize organization’s fundraising tracking systems and create culture of regular review and accountability

Manage communication and marketing efforts to ensure consistent branding and visibility.

  • Collaborate with Program Team/Partners on branding opportunities that advance awareness and engagement
  • Partner with Development and Communications Manager to enhance and execute a communication plan, including digital newsletters and social media

Serve as an advisor and thought partner to CEO

  • Effectively leverage CEO as frontline fundraiser
  • Collaborate with CEO on board management and support

Qualifications

  • Proven Fundraising Capacity: 5+ years of progressive experience in fundraising, with experience across a range of areas, including individual giving, major gifts, institutional giving, corporate partnerships, and special events. Experience leading and growing a contributed revenue portfolio, ideally $2M or more, is highly desirable. Familiarity with the local funding landscape in Los Angeles is a plus.
  • Strategic & Systems-Oriented Thinker: A systems-builder with a keen ability to design and implement efficient fundraising workflows. Adept at implementing tracking systems and metrics, and fostering a culture of accountability. Has familiarity with optimizing fundraising CRMs.
  • Relationship Builder: Exceptional interpersonal skills with a proven ability to cultivate and steward strong relationships with donors, board members, and colleagues, fostering trust and a sense of shared purpose.
  • Exceptional Communicator: Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a proven ability to craft compelling grant proposals, solicitations, donor communications, and marketing materials. 
  • Collaborative Team Leader: Demonstrated ability to build, mentor, and empower high-performing teams. Excels at fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment, and partnering with different team members to advance goals.
  • Organized Project Manager: A self-starter with strong project management skills, capable of independently leading and executing multiple complex tasks and initiatives with minimal oversight.
  • Entrepreneurial & Resourceful: Possesses an entrepreneurial mindset, is incredibly resourceful, and excels at creative problem-solving, consistently finding innovative solutions and maximizing impact with available resources.
