About this job

This position is an excellent opportunity to support strategic communications for the Vision Resource Center (VRC), the Success Center’s learning management and professional development platform. The Communications Specialist will join the Vision Resource Center Engagement team and will work collaboratively with the other three Vision Resource Center teams and Chancellor’s Office representatives to plan, coordinate, and develop communications materials and activities that support the growth and use of the Vision Resource Center. The ideal candidate has strong planning, writing, editing, and verbal communications skills, as well as web and technical abilities.

Roles & responsibilities

• Work directly with the Vision Resource Center Engagement Lead to establish project needs and provide strategic thinking to plan for communications activities.

• In partnership with the Foundation Communications team and other communication professionals, develop marketing collateral and communications pieces, including emails, flyers, community posts, presentations, and more for the Vision Resource Center.

• Act as a liaison to Foundation and Chancellor’s Office programs to ensure Vision Resource Center messaging is included in other system wide communications when appropriate.

• Plan, prepare, distribute and post regular communications related to the Vision Resource Center, such as monthly emails, new module announcements, correspondences, and online community posts.

• Monitor and report on available analytics of all communication activities.

• Represent the Vision Resource Center at system events (both virtual and in-person) and support fellow team members in their own event participation through the creation of marketing materials, presentations, signage, and more.

• Build marketing emails in the Vision Resource Center/Cornerstone platform.

• Maintain information and regularly updates the public Vision Resource Center website which is built in WordPress.

Qualifications

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to maintain effective working relationships and communicate verbally and in writing in a professional and courteous manner.

• Proven ability to write, create content, edit, and develop content strategies.

• Ability to work on a fast-paced team, with all levels of staff and management, and build and maintain collaborative working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

• Ability to learn new technology, software and platforms for communications and the patience to problem solve issues.

• Knowledge of communications standards, especially best practices in web communication, multimedia, social media channels, brand strategy.

• Adaptability and ability to respond to changing priorities effectively and efficiently.

• Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, especially Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.

• Proficiency in online meeting collaboration tools, such as Zoom and Google Docs.

• Ability to collect and evaluate data from Google Analytics and custom dashboards.

• Passionate about providing students with stronger pathways to education and building a more just and equitable California overall.

• A self-starter and quick learner who is highly motivated and outcome-oriented, always seeking innovative approaches to project execution.

• A strategic and creative thinker who can problem-solve, working within and across teams to swiftly respond to needs identified across the California Community Colleges.

• Practices ownership, takes accountability, and has the ability to project manage, prioritize tasks, and deliver quality products on time with limited supervision.

• Ability to work on a fast-paced team and build and maintain collaborative working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
