Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Los Angeles (BGCMLA) is a scalable and sustainable solution to reversing the opportunity crises facing some of the most vulnerable youth in marginalized neighborhoods of Los Angeles. BGCMLA is designed to increase programmatic offerings and to serve a more significant number of youth in the areas of Metro Los Angeles. About this job

The Lead Youth Development Professional works with Site leadership and Youth Development Professionals to ensure high-quality programming and youth development practices are implemented throughout the Site. Boys & Girls Clubs offers daily access to a broad range of programs in five core program areas (Character and Leadership Development; Education and Career Development; Health and Life Skills; The Arts; and Sports, Fitness and Recreation) and several specialized initiatives. All programs are designed to drive positive outcomes for youth and reinforce necessary life skills. The Lead Youth Development Specialist will assist with Site program planning, program implementation, member program coordination and supervision of programs and activities for youth and/or teens.

Roles & responsibilities

Facilitates programs/sessions modeling group management, program instruction, and youth engagement practices to ensure healthy and safe program environments.

Assist in the creation of curriculum and lesson plans.

Assist Youth Development Professionals with program planning (including calendars and lesson plans), daily preparation, participant data collection and high-quality practices to boost engagement.

Informally observes Youth Development Professionals and provide feedback and coaching, including coordination of shadow/observation opportunities for new Youth Development Professionals.

Plan, promote and conduct specialized event and programs, including Leagues.

Plan, promote, and conduct special events, recruiting members for programs (including grant funded), activities and leagues.

Lead daily/weekly Youth Development Professional huddles, promoting site-wide communication about continuous quality improvement practices in programming, environment, and evaluation.

Initiate and maintain community contacts; families, schools and other organizations and institutions as directed.

Participate in a BGCMLA meetings and work committees.

Transports youth and/or teens to during Club sponsored activities to enhance programming and special experiences.

Participates in training / educational opportunities to expand knowledge and skills.

Ensures supply and program areas are neat and orderly, and bulletin boards and notices are current.

Recommends needed repairs to facility and/or equipment.

Supervises and trains volunteers and program assistants, and ensures that other YDPs are providing quality programs.

Monitors supply needs and orders required supplies through approved vendors and within budget as approved by Supervisor.

Completes and submits all required paperwork on time.

Assist in communication with parents.

Assumes all other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITY and SKILLS

Knowledge of subject matter within core areas and youth development in general.

Skilled in creative planning, implementing quality youth programs, organizational /and project management, and working toward positive outcomes.

Ability to deal effectively with members, including disciplinary issues. Demonstrated ability in relationship building and working with young people and parents.

Ability to demonstrate a professional manner in all interactions, able to facilitate a diverse group of youth effectively, and to organize time well and focus on completing assigned tasks with minimal supervision.

WORKING CONDITIONS and DRIVING

Travel between Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Los Angeles sites and schools and various field trip sites as well as in the community is required. Must meet the insurance standards of Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Los Angeles.

Hours are based on school calendar and attendance patterns/trends – evening hours are required during the school year; hours will vary during summer and school breaks; occasional weekend hours are required
