One of the nation’s premier nonprofit legal aid organizations, Bet Tzedek – the House of Justice – is hiring a mission-driven, team-oriented Grants Officer to join our dynamic development department, which raises over $15M annually. The Grants Officer is part of a six-person institutional giving team that manages all aspects of Bet Tzedek’s grant funding, including data collection, proposal development, outcomes reporting, and relationship management. This position works closely with program, finance, and executive staff to strategically develop and manage a portfolio of private and government grants, helping to ensure Bet Tzedek’s programs continue to thrive.

This position is eligible for Bet Tzedek Legal Services’ hybrid/remote workplace designation. While the primary workplace is Bet Tzedek’s offices, at the discretion of the immediate supervisor, the employee may be permitted to work remotely or may be required to work in other locations depending on workload/business obligations Candidates must be located in the Southern California region and able to commute if needed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Roles & responsibilities

Manage a portfolio of private grants and public contracts, serving as key liaison between Bet Tzedek and granting agency staff.

· Manage grant proposal development from beginning to end, including conducting prospecting research, interviewing program staff, running data reports, writing proposal narratives, assisting with project budgets, and submitting proposals and other materials as needed.

· Administer awarded grants throughout the grant’s lifecycle, from pre-award to closeout.

· Help ensure grant compliance by working with program staff, finance department, the VP of Compliance, and the data team to systematically track grant performance metrics and qualified expenditures, complete required grant reports, provide periodic internal progress reports, and assist with audits.

· Thoughtfully steward relationships with assigned funders through skilled moves management, with guidance from the Director of Institutional Giving and VP of External Affairs.

· Maintain careful records of funder communications in Raiser’s Edge software.

· Use the team’s grant tracking tools to schedule and monitor deadlines and track status of proposals.

· Proactively develop knowledge and understanding of Bet Tzedek’s client populations, programs, and services to effectively communicate the agency’s impact.

· Continue deepening knowledge and understanding of the funding priorities of the assigned funders in their portfolio and how those priorities may align with Bet Tzedek’s work.

· Coordinate site visits, host calls and meetings with institutional and government funders.

· Actively contribute to the development of grants team’s best practices and procedures, cultivation

· strategies, and grant management tools.

· Effectively represent Bet Tzedek to external parties through both written and oral communications and at external events and programs as needed.

· Attend staff and departmental meetings.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

· Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent training or work experience (required).

· A minimum of 4 years of grant writing experience (required), preferably at a legal and/or social services nonprofit.

· Experience with public/government contracts (highly preferred) and funding from the State Bar of California (preferred).

· Experience crafting compelling narratives for programs that serve low-income tenants, homeowners, and small business owners (preferred).

· Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Bet Tzedek’s vision of equal justice for all.

· Demonstrated commitment to applying principles of equity, full and authentic representation and belonging in performance of job duties (required).

· Exceptional writer, consistently able to deliver clear, cogent, and factually grounded arguments, and possessing keen storytelling instincts; able to shape narratives for maximum impact on the intended audience (required).

· Team-oriented; works to create a mutually respectful and supportive environment on the development team and with colleagues across departments (required).

· Outstanding research and analytical abilities; able to quickly synthesize facts and information to marshal compelling arguments for proposed projects (required).

· Knowledge of priorities, trends, and requirements in the philanthropic community and government funding arena, especially within Los Angeles County and California (strongly preferred).

· Exceptional project management, organizational, and time management skills; demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, meet deadlines, and produce consistently high-quality work products in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment (required).

· Strong computer proficiency in: MS Office Suite, Raiser’s Edge and/or RE NXT, case management systems, and internet research search engines (strongly preferred).

· Excellent interpersonal and relationship management skills; able to interact professionally and communicate effectively with a diverse population of stakeholders, including colleagues across departments and potential or current funders (required).

· Willingness and ability to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed (required).

Salary

$79,402.50-$90,272.86
