The Ave 33 Farm Community Farmstand is open on Saturdays from 10am-1pm and provides low cost, affordable, fresh, local produce to residents of Lincoln Heights and surrounding neighborhoods. Community members can purchase produce at a discounted rate with EBT, and at sliding scale rates with cash. Every Thursday Ave 33 Farm distributes over 2,000 lbs of free organic produce to over 150 families with volunteers, students and community members.
About this job
The Distribution Manager position is part of the leadership team at Avenue 33 Farm and will manage and further develop the weekly farmstand and free distribution. This position will also coordinate relevant programming, volunteers, and outreach for the farmstand and free distribution. The right candidate should be excited about building new programming, making connections and understanding the work and organization that goes into taking an idea from seed to harvest!
Roles & responsibilities
Duties include but are not limited to:
Order management
Coordination and relationship management with farmers, volunteers, interns and programming participants
Farmstand produce distribution
Wholesale produce distribution
Data management and analysis
Process management and improvements
Sourcing, picking up wholesale produce from, and building relationships with local producers.
Manage communications with farmstand customers, volunteers and community members through Instagram and email correspondence.
Packing, preparing, and managing weekly CSA orders.
Harvesting produce and general farm work.
Setting up, managing, and breaking down weekly farmstand on Saturdays
Leading volunteers and students through food distributions and related systems of operations
Qualifications
We are looking for someone who is…
Highly autonomous and a creative problem solver
Knowledgeable about produce and agriculture
Available Saturday mornings-afternoon
Has an interest in local food systems and improving food access in North East LA.
Has market/grocery/retail management experience
Comfortable with basic outreach, marketing to community members, and able to communicate with customers via email and Instagram.
Loves checklists, operating procedures, and organizing - shows up prepared
Can use or learn to use G Suite (particularly excel sheets), Calendly, etc.
Able to lift 40 pounds and engage in manual physical labor while maintaining efficiency.
Grant reporting and reconciling finances *ask Nicole
Amicable and makes a space feel welcome to community members.
Has access to a reliable vehicle and a valid license.
Bilingual in Spanish.
Plus, but not required:
Basic graphic design skills
Experience with retail/restaurant POS systems, specifically with reconciling sales and reports
Interest in social media management
