About this job
The Policy Advocate is responsible for advancing the advocacy efforts of Advancing Justice Southern California. Utilizing a strong understanding and development of local/regional relationships and landscapes, this position will identify opportunities to uplift key issues of concern with state legislative staff and administrative policy makers to shape policies that positively impact the AANHPI communities. This position is covered under the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Roles & responsibilities
60% Major Responsibilities
Design, plan, and implement comprehensive policy strategies aligned with organizational priorities and goals
Development and maintenance of strong regional relationships with community-based organizations, leaders, elected officials, and their staff
Provide strategic guidance and tools to community partners, including policy analysis, power-mapping, and decision-making
30% Policy Support
Maintain strong relationships and communication with LA, OC, and Sacramento staff with key focus on uplifting OCs political and legislative needs
Serve as an ambassador of Advancing Justice-LAs mission, policy, and advocacy priorities in OC
10% All other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Minimum associate degree, Bachelors in a related field strongly preferred
Minimum of two (2) years of experience working on legislative policy advocacy
Strong familiarity with the current local and state political landscape
Experience working with policy issues impacting AANHPI communities and AJ-LAs priority areas are a plus such as immigration, education, equity, and voting rights
Demonstrated ability to build relationships with decision makers, community partners, and diverse stakeholders
Demonstrated sincere commitment to social justice and serving on behalf of low-income, immigrant communities, experience with AANHPI or non-profits preferred
Valid driver's license and/or access to alternative means of transportation
