About this job
Summary:
As part of the Membership Department, the Health Aide promotes a healthy after school environment for the physical safety of students. The Health Aide will be at the front-line for member safety and well being. The Health Aide assesses members who are ill and/or injured and determines if further medical attention is needed during after school programming hours for fall and spring sessions Monday through Friday,(2:30 pm - 6:30 pm) and during summer programming hours M - F (9:00am - 5:30pm).
Roles & responsibilities
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Member Care
- Monitor children to ensure their health, safety and physical well-being
- Enforce and ensure Covid-19 health and safety rules and procedures are observed Screen members for Covid-19, secure in sick room to prevent spreading,
- Perform first aid in emergency situations according to established procedures
- Administer first aid for minor injuries
- Examine members for lice or general health problems when necessary
- Provide input to APCH staff pertaining to decisions on members about participation in activities per their health needs
- Communicate with the supervisor regarding incident observations.
- Prepare, maintain and replenish first aid kits for various on-site locations and off-campus trips
- Perform other tasks as assigned
- COVID related responsibilities
- Provide input regarding COVID response and protocols.
- Possess basic knowledge of principles, methods, and procedures for providing the full continuance of COVID-19 response, including:
- Contact Tracing
- Immunizations
- General Health Practice
- Assist with daily screenings for COVID-19 risk, per existing protocol
- Manage potentially COVID-positive members in the isolation area:
- Supervise member
- Contact families
- Record activity as needed
Administrative
- Document all injuries and care rendered - Maintain medical log, complete incident forms for injuries when required
- Review all Incident/Accident Reports to identify ways to prevent and reduce incidents, accident and injuries
- Notify supervisor of health problems and concerns and respond to questions related to member’s health
- Inventory supplies monthly and submit a reorder request as needed
- Communicates necessary medical information in a timely manner to appropriate APCH personnel, parents/guardians while maintaining confidentiality
- Provide weekly data reports on immunizations and covid-19 vaccinations
- Work with the Membership team to ensure all immunization records and allergies are up to date

- High school graduate or equivalent
- 1 year experience in healthcare field
- Current certification in cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) & Basic First Aid
- 1 year experience working with youth
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) Required
- Physical and Mental Demands
- Able to work in a dynamic and high noise level environment typical of a youth center
- Walking, standing required on daily basis
- Sitting and use of hands/vision for computer work for extended periods of time
- Lift up to 25 pounds occasionally
- APCH COVID-19 Vaccination Policy
- All new hires must provide proof of their first dose of the vaccine on the first day of employment, if not fully vaccinated, and will have 30 days from their date of hire to complete their COVID-19 vaccination and submit proof of completion to the organization’s HR department. All fully vaccinated staff must also provide proof of their booster vaccine once eligible.
