Vota con Orgullo

Hermandad Mexicana Nacional continues to lead LA County in supporting the legal permanent residence in their journey to become naturalized citizens of the United States. We believe our reputation and professionalism have guided hundreds of thousands of immigrants to become active participants in the City of Panorama City. We would now like to take that next step to become civically engaged in the San Fernando Valley in the electoral process. We would like to activate our client base to become consistent voters.

What is your understanding of the issue that you are seeking to address?

We're addressing the pervasive civic disengagement among California's diverse electorate, particularly immigrant communities and communities of color. Despite high naturalization rates, many new citizens don't vote in their first elections due to language barriers, complex procedures, and lack of tailored support. This perpetuates underrepresentation in leadership and hinders a truly inclusive democracy. Our initiative tackles these obstacles by expanding the naturalization-to-voter pipeline, mobilizing infrequent voters with culturally appropriate resources, and innovating accessibility. We also aim to transform our 15 Los Angeles County offices into vital community hubs, where individuals can learn about and actively engage in the electoral process, and participate in community resource events that provide a safe space to discover additional local support, ensuring all Californians can participate in civic life.

Describe the project, program, or initiative this grant will support to address the issue.

Our "Vota con Orgullo" initiative tackles civic disengagement through three key strategies.
First, we'll expand the naturalization-to-voter pipeline, giving new citizens comprehensive support for their first vote, including registration integration, "First Vote" mentorship with local government, mail-in voting education, and transportation.
Second, we'll mobilize underrepresented voters. This means re-engaging infrequent immigrant voters via targeted outreach, culturally appropriate educational materials addressing ballot barriers, and practical support like transportation and mail-in ballot assistance.
Third, we'll drive voting accessibility innovation. We'll dismantle systemic barriers by exploring tech solutions for clear, multilingual voting information and collaborating with local election officials to improve polling place access in immigrant communities.
Our offices will become community hubs, welcoming spaces for electoral engagement. They'll also host community resource events, offering a safe environment for people to connect and find vital local support, fostering civic participation.

Describe how Los Angeles County will be different if your work is successful.

A Transformed Los Angeles County: "¡Vota con Orgullo!"
If our "Vota con Orgullo" initiative thrives, Los Angeles County's immigrant population will dramatically shift from exclusion to empowered participation.
We'll see increased voter turnout and representation, as thousands of new and infrequent immigrant voters confidently cast ballots, ensuring LA County's institutions reflect its diversity. Voting will become accessible and understandable with clear, multilingual information and improved polling places.
Our renovated Panorama City office will serve as a vibrant community hub, a safe space for electoral learning and community resource events. By promoting relatable individual stories, we'll foster pride and connection, inspiring deeper engagement.
Ultimately, LA County will achieve a more just, equitable, and truly inclusive democracy where immigrant voices resonate with pride: ¡Vota con Orgullo!
