Transforming Climate Anxiety into Climate Action
Many people are concerned about the climate crisis but feel isolated or don’t know where to start. With our Climate Action Social Club, we’re reimagining climate action as a joyful, social experience. Every other week, we host in-person, curated events that build friendships, help people find inspiration, and take local action alongside local leaders in ways that feel rewarding. Whether someone is brand-new or deeply involved, there's a place for them in the club.

What is your understanding of the issue that you are seeking to address?
HeyClimate is addressing the gap between climate concern and climate action—especially among young people facing rising climate anxiety. Over 70% of youth report fear about the future due to climate change, yet many feel isolated or unsure how to take action. Existing climate spaces often feel inaccessible or disconnected from daily life. HeyClimate transforms that anxiety into agency by making it easy to take action, build community, and find your role in the movement. As social clubs, run clubs, and other affinity groups grow in response to digital fatigue, there's a deeper need for spaces that foster connection and collective action on issues people are concerned about. At the core of our model is connecting members to local climate partners working on solutions, bringing in new audiences to them and offering a platform for collaboration to build a more connected, impactful movement across LA.
Describe the project, program, or initiative this grant will support to address the issue.
This grant will support the expansion of HeyClimate’s Climate Action Social Club—a community-driven initiative designed to help young people move from climate concern to meaningful local engagement. For $10/month, members gain access to exclusive climate-themed events, action opportunities, educational experiences, and a supportive community that makes it easy—and fun—to stay involved. From volunteer days and workshops to social gatherings and member-led projects, the Club offers tangible ways to participate in solutions while building real relationships. Grant funding will help us grow membership, expand programming, and reach more people experiencing climate anxiety who are looking for a way in.
Describe how Los Angeles County will be different if your work is successful.
If our work is successful, Los Angeles County will be home to a more connected, empowered, and active climate movement —especially among younger generations. Thousands more residents will feel hopeful rather than helpless, taking consistent climate action in their neighborhoods, workplaces, and social circles. Local climate initiatives will see greater participation, grassroots solutions will gain momentum, and more people will view climate action as a shared, joyful, and collective effort. By transforming climate anxiety into engagement, we’re helping build a culture of community-powered climate resilience across LA. In other words, if we are successful, we expect to see a stronger, more broad-based and vibrant climate space in LA.
