What is your understanding of the issue that you are seeking to address?
Black women in Los Angeles face intersecting challenges: systemic marginalization, generational trauma, and a lack of culturally affirming healing spaces. These pressures often result in emotional suppression, burnout, and isolation, with traditional wellness models failing to address the unique cultural and creative needs of Black women. Without intentional, culturally relevant interventions, these challenges can manifest as mental health struggles, disconnection from identity, and diminished self-worth. Queen’s L.A.B. responds by centering emotional literacy, creative expression, and sisterhood, providing a sacred space for Black women to heal, reconnect with their legacy, and awaken their inner brilliance.
Describe the project, program, or initiative this grant will support to address the issue.
Queen’s L.A.B. is a multi-day, immersive healing and creative empowerment program designed for Black women in South LA, Leimert Park, Inglewood, and Mid-City. The program blends personal development with emotional literacy, using poetry, public speaking, drama therapy, visual arts, and music as tools for self-discovery and healing. Each session is framed around emotional literacy themes—self-worth, boundaries, voice reclamation, and inner peace—and is led by Black women artists, therapists, and facilitators. Activities include guided journaling, healing circles, and culminating artistic showcases that allow participants to share their stories and reclaim their narratives. The environment is intentionally sacred, safe, and celebratory, supporting each woman’s healing journey and creative rebirth. Queen’s L.A.B. is not just a gathering, but a revolution in self-love, sisterhood, and soulful expression, empowering Black women to rewrite their stories, reclaim their voices, and reconnect with joy and purpose.
Describe how Los Angeles County will be different if your work is successful.

Black women who participate will return to their families, communities, and workplaces more self-aware, emotionally empowered, and creatively alive. This ripple effect will strengthen family units, inspire culturally relevant healing practices, and increase Black women’s leadership, entrepreneurship, and artistic visibility.
