What is your understanding of the issue that you are seeking to address?

For GHR’s hybrid program, “The Best of Both Worlds,” the issue we are seeking to address is the critical lack of inclusive, developmentally appropriate programming for young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) after they age out of the traditional school system. Without structured support, this population faces social isolation, skill regression, discrimination, bullying and limited opportunities for independence or community engagement. Our program fills this gap by offering a consistent, enriching environment that blends on-site vocational and life skills training with real-world community integration—promoting growth, connection, and dignity for every participant.
Through structured programs, social skill development, and supported community outings, we help participants navigate the world with greater confidence, reducing isolation, vulnerability, and at the same time strengthening their sense of belonging, safety and confidence in the greater community.

Describe the project, program, or initiative this grant will support to address the issue.

This grant will support Golden Heart Ranch’s unique program, The Best of Both Worlds, a dynamic initiative designed to meet the unique needs of young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities who have aged out of traditional school services. The program combines the stability of structured, on-site experiences at our 22-acre ranch—such as gardening, cooking, animal care, fitness, yoga, health and education classes, art, and life skills—with the enrichment of meaningful guided/supported community outings, volunteer opportunities, and social activities. This unique blended approach not only promotes independence and self-confidence but also encourages meaningful community engagement, reduces isolation, and supports the transition into adulthood with dignity and purpose. Emotionally, we promote safety by fostering a culture of inclusion, where bullying, discrimination, and isolation are actively prevented, and every individual is encouraged to express themselves.
We believe in: Community, Purpose, Happiness.
