TGR STEAM Satellite & Mobile Outreach
The TGR STEAM Satellite & Mobile Outreach will bring innovative, hands-on STEAM and career-readiness programming to South LA, where no comparable resource currently exists for local youth. As a new extension of the future TGR Learning Lab LA, the Satellite will serve as a vibrant hub for learning, play, and community connection. This place-based initiative directly advances LA2050’s goals to make LA the best place to learn, create, and play—equipping under-resourced students with skills to thrive in the future workforce.

What is your understanding of the issue that you are seeking to address?
Students in under-resourced communities face persistent barriers to STEAM learning, with limited access to hands-on instruction, lab facilities, and real-world career exploration. National data shows nearly 80% of 4th graders lack lab access, and 42% of 8th graders rarely engage in inquiry-based learning—conditions often are worse for youth of color. A recent Tallo survey reveals that 1 in 4 young adults can’t find jobs in their desired field, and 62% aren't working in their intended careers after school. Many report feeling isolated and unsupported in navigating their futures. Without early exposure to STEAM concepts and careers, students miss critical opportunities to discover their passions and build pathways to well-paying, future-ready jobs. The TGR STEAM Satellite addresses this gap by delivering innovative, place-based learning that connects education to opportunity, right in the heart of South LA.
Describe the project, program, or initiative this grant will support to address the issue.
The TGR STEAM Satellite & Mobile Outreach project addresses the systemic lack of access to STEAM education faced by students in under-resourced communities. By offering hands-on learning in areas like photography, video game design, and more, the project creates positive touch points in a space that is familiar, accessible, and designed for students. With no comparable resources nearby, the Satellite offers a place-based, culturally responsive innovation that meets youth where they are, reducing logistical and psychological barriers to participation.
The Satellite site will serve as the central hub for mobile programming, offering secure storage, operational space, and a launch point for outreach efforts across the region. The site will host on-site programming throughout the year, including after-school sessions, summer camps, and one-day field trips for students. It will also support broader TGR initiatives, such as professional development through TGR STEM Studio, college readiness through College Bound Academy, and family-focused community engagement events.
This work is foundational to TGR’s long-term commitment to LA through the forthcoming TGR Learning Lab. “It’s important for us to be in LA because it’s where we started,” said Tiger Woods, founder of TGR Foundation. Through the Satellite, TGR is building trust and familiarity with youth-serving organizations, families, and community leaders—laying the groundwork for deeper, sustained impact in the region.
Describe how Los Angeles County will be different if your work is successful.
If successful, the TGR STEAM Satellite will spark a ripple effect of educational equity, college and career readiness, and community pride in South LA. Rooted in community this mobile site is set to be a space that will serve as a dynamic, trusted hub for youth and families. Students will gain early exposure to STEAM, igniting confidence and curiosity that carries through to the upcoming TGR Learning Lab LA in Westchester. This pipeline from community-based enrichment to a 25,000 sq. ft. educational facility (the forthcoming TGR Learning Lab Los Angeles) will create sustained pathways to college, careers, and leadership. Over time, these efforts will boost local talent, diversify the workforce, and catalyze long-term community revitalization in neighborhoods that have long lacked access to such resources.
