Describe the project, program, or initiative this grant will support to address the issue.
This grant will help us expand our reach to communities throughout Los Angeles County by providing a safe place for youth, families, and adults to participate in roller-skating activities that will provide self-expression, foster resilience, empower a growth mindset, and build self-awareness. We equip underserved youth with tools for mental/physical health and emotional well-being, helping them thrive and reach their full potential in life. Our sunshine skate outreach project brings together everyone in Los Angeles communities regardless of age, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, or social economic status. Our project aims to provide roller-skating events for the community for free.
Describe how Los Angeles County will be different if your work is successful.
So many young people, families and adults have a hard time paying the price to attend events in their community, while being educated and provided community resources that can help their careers, college education, livelihood, and local businesses. Our skating events our affordable, with the aim to be free, and give families access to venues like SoFi, where they otherwise wouldn't be able to afford a ticket to attend an event in their city. The Sunshine Skate Foundation has had two successful events at SoFi and the Debbie Allen theatre that helped raise money for LA wildfire victims.
