Streets to Suites
Streets to Suites is a trauma-informed housing initiative that helps unhoused youth, families, veterans, and survivors of domestic violence transition from encampments to hotel placements and into long-term housing. What is your understanding of the issue that you are seeking to address?
Los Angeles is in the midst of a humanitarian crisis, with thousands of unhoused individuals — including youth, families, veterans, and survivors of domestic violence — living in tents, cars, and unstable conditions. Many are system-impacted, and have been failed by broken systems rooted in redlining, racial inequality, and historic disinvestment. The issue extends beyond housing: trauma, poverty, food insecurity, lack of jobs, and an extremely high cost of living all intersect. Without community-rooted, trauma-informed support, people remain trapped in survival. We're not just addressing homelessness — we're confronting hopelessness and the systems that create it.
Describe the project, program, or initiative this grant will support to address the issue.
Streets to Suites is a trauma-informed housing and support initiative designed to transition unhoused individuals — especially youth, families, survivors of domestic violence, and veterans — from encampments to hotel placements and ultimately into stable, long-term housing. The program meets people where they are, providing immediate shelter in safe, dignified environments while connecting them to wraparound services including food, clothing, job readiness, mental health referrals, and mentorship.
What makes Streets to Suites unique is its holistic and culturally responsive approach. We don’t simply place people — we walk with them through healing. Participants are engaged through creative expression, storytelling, and personal development workshops designed to build trust, identity, and hope. We also assist with document recovery, system navigation, and re-entry services for formerly incarcerated individuals. Our staff and volunteers reflect the community we serve; many having lived experience with homelessness or system involvement.
This grant will allow us to scale the program, covering hotel placements, case management, transportation, and access to critical life-stabilizing services. We will also expand our mobile outreach team to engage more encampments across South and Central LA. By providing safety, stability, and a path forward, Streets to Suites addresses the root causes of homelessness and empowers participants to reclaim their futures — with dignity.
Describe how Los Angeles County will be different if your work is successful.
If Streets to Suites is successful, Los Angeles County will see a measurable shift in both visible homelessness and invisible despair. More individuals will transition from tents and encampments to safe, supportive housing — with the tools to remain housed long-term. Neighborhoods will experience greater safety and dignity. Communities will see youth return to school, veterans regain stability, and families begin to heal. By addressing the trauma, systemic neglect, and isolation that fuels homelessness, we will not only reduce housing insecurity — we will ignite community pride and trust. L.A. will no longer be defined by its crisis, but by how it chose to rise from it.
