What is your understanding of the issue that you are seeking to address?
Natural emergencies—such as wildfires, floods, earthquakes, and storms—occur suddenly and often with little warning, causing widespread damage to communities and the environment. These events disrupt daily life, threaten lives and property, and can overwhelm local resources. Effective preparation, timely response, and coordinated recovery efforts are essential to minimize harm and help communities rebuild stronger and more resilient.
Describe the project, program, or initiative this grant will support to address the issue.
In response to the wildfire in January 2025, this project aims to provide safe and accessible drinking water to disaster impacted communities, where water quality may be compromised. Water filtration systems will be placed near public parks, libraries, beaches and shopping centers. These re-fill stations will offer clean drinking water, promote environmental sustainability, and encourage community well - being.
In addition, families impacted by wildfire will be provided opportunties to "shop" for basic necessities at a local hub and attend quarterly wellness workshops that benefit the entire family.
Describe how Los Angeles County will be different if your work is successful.
LA County residents will experience improved health, tools for mental and physical recovery, access to essential resources, and opportunities for employment. By integrating accessibility to receive services in local communal areas, communities will regain independence, focus on their wellness, and allow residents to save money by creating opportunties to "shop" for necessities. Together, these efforts will create a more equitable, prepared, and resilient Los Angeles County where basic needs are met and healing is community-led.
