What is your understanding of the issue that you are seeking to address?

When disaster strikes in Los Angeles—whether it’s fire, displacement, or emotional crisis—too many people are left without care. Rosa had a wound but was too afraid to return to the hospital after losing her husband there. Robert, a teacher, couldn’t breathe after sifting through fire debris. Suzanne hadn’t cried since the fire until she sat down in our van and felt safe. Each of these individuals exemplified the need to be seen, heard, and helped as a whole person—quickly. LA has over 75,000 unhoused residents (LAHSA, 2023), many in unstable and wildfire-prone areas. Yet our city lacks mobile care that’s fast and comprehensive. Medical Mission Adventures is changing that. We bring urgent medical, mental, dental, and vision care directly to those in need. In a world of growing instability, we’re not waiting for people to find help—we’re driving it to them, with compassion, readiness, and care that lasts.

Describe the project, program, or initiative this grant will support to address the issue.

This grant will support Rapid Response 360°, Los Angeles’ first mobile crisis relief van delivering urgent medical, trauma-informed mental health, dental, and vision care—all in one agile, deployable unit. Designed to respond within 24-48 hours of a crisis, the van will reach underserved and high-risk communities, including wildfire-prone zones and unhoused populations, with comprehensive services.

The program includes:
A licensed team of clinicians, mental health providers, dental hygienists,
and optometrists
Smart triage technology for rapid assessment and prioritization
Culturally responsive, trauma-informed mental health care and emotional first aid
Dental screenings and treatment for infections, decay, and pain
Vision exams and free prescription glasses
On-site navigation to follow-up care, housing, and social services

What makes Rapid Response 360° unique is its integrated, whole-person model combined with a trauma-informed, trust-building approach. Inspired by real-world success stories like Rosa, Robert, and Suzanne, the initiative meets people at the point of crisis—on sidewalks, in parking lots, or disaster zones—and stays with them through recovery. This is not a drop-in model; it’s a presence model. We don’t just offer care—Medical Mission Adventures builds relationships that restore dignity and stability.

Describe how Los Angeles County will be different if your work is successful.

When successful, Rapid Response 360° will transform how Los Angeles responds to crisis—delivering whole-person, comprehensive mobile care directly to people when and where they need it most. In the first year, we aim to serve over 2,000 individuals in wildfire-prone and high-need areas—reducing ER visits, catching preventable conditions, and addressing trauma early. Most importantly, we’ll build trust, proving that mobile, compassionate care can be the front line of resilience. Long term, we plan to scale the model countywide with multiple vans, expand services to include substance use treatment, and formalize partnerships with LA County OEM, DHS, and local clinics. We envision a county where crisis response is immediate, integrated, and centered on dignity. By 2030, Rapid Response 360° would serve as a statewide model—ready to respond to public health emergencies and disasters like fires, heatwaves, and floods, meeting the moment with care that heals and endures.
