What is your understanding of the issue that you are seeking to address?

Project Rewrite seeks to address the lack of accessible, relevant opportunities for youth and young adults, particularly those from underserved communities, to gain meaningful skills, build confidence, and engage in positive self-expression. Many young people today face cycles of instability, limited job prospects, and social disconnection, often without platforms to share their stories or explore creative pathways to personal and economic growth. This initiative confronts those challenges by offering a transformative space where participants can process their experiences, develop technical and artistic skills, and discover new possibilities for their future.

Describe the project, program, or initiative this grant will support to address the issue.

Project Rewrite is a year-long creative development program that equips youth and young adults with technical skills, emotional support, and economic opportunities through the power of storytelling and live production. Participants will collaborate to produce original drama performances, learning every aspect of the creative process, including acting, scriptwriting, sound engineering, broadcasting, livestream production, and multimedia design. Each production cycle will be paired with group sessions focused on family engagement, mentorship, and emotional wellness to promote healing and personal growth.
Participants will also explore entrepreneurship by turning their creative work into digital content, learning how to build an audience, monetize media, and develop portfolios that support future career pathways. By combining artistic expression, technical training, and community healing, The Rewrite Project empowers young people to take ownership of their narratives and develop the skills they need to rewrite their futures.

Describe how Los Angeles County will be different if your work is successful.

Project Rewrite is successful, Los Angeles County will see a new generation of youth and young adults who are not only equipped with in-demand creative and technical skills, but also empowered to lead with confidence, purpose, and emotional resilience. Communities will benefit from increased youth engagement, reduced isolation, and strengthened family connections as participants use storytelling to bridge generational and cultural divides.
Neighborhoods often impacted by poverty, violence, or disconnection will instead become incubators of creativity and collaboration, where young people are recognized as storytellers, producers, and change makers. By turning stages and screens into platforms for transformation, Project Rewrite will help cultivate a more vibrant, inclusive, and opportunity-rich Los Angeles.
