Musicians For Fire Relief
This event pitch is for a one-night-only concert and livestreamed event in a 1500-capacity venue in Los Angeles. The intent is to host a second “Musicians For Fire Relief” Event, with our Fiscal Sponsor, Sweet Relief Musicians Fund, and extend an already existing partnership between Sweet Relief and Backline, the mental health organization to benefit both.
What is the primary issue area that your application will impact?
Wildfire relief
In which areas of Los Angeles will you be directly working?
Central LA West LA
In what stage of innovation is this project, program, or initiative?
Expand existing project, program, or initiative (expanding and continuing ongoing, successful work)
What is your understanding of the issue that you are seeking to address?
Multiple members of our staff not only live in different parts of LA, and several have lost their homes to fire. Collectively, our team knows so many industry members who are personally affected by these fires, many who lost their entire livelihoods, not just their gear, recording studios, or home.
We wanted to create a way to give back to the music community that has given us our careers. We held our first event, Musicians For Fire Relief a few months ago, which raised $30,000, but that is a mere drop in the bucket compared to what the music community needs, so we have been planning a part two to Musicians For Fire Relief for about a month now, with our overall goal to raise more money for housing relief and mental health care, which is one of our long-term goals as a business. Losing a home or a recording studio is hard. Losing an entire community is beyond traumatic.
Describe the project, program, or initiative this grant will support to address the issue.
This event pitch is for a one-night-only concert, auction + livestreamed event in a 1500+ capacity venue in Los Angeles, likely the Bellweather. The event will be livestreamed for free to the public on Volume.com so that other donations can come in as well as merch purchases from those unable to attend in person, or obtain tickets.
The “cause” or intention of the concert pitch is two-fold:
1. To host a second “Musicians For Fire Relief” Event, with our current partner, Sweet Relief Musicians Fund, loosely titled “Musicians For Fire Relief: From The Ashes We Sing”
2. To extend a partnership that is already happening between Sweet Relief, and Backline, the mental health organization, in September or October to address National Suicide Awareness Month, working up to 10/10, which is World Mental Health Day.
Describe how Los Angeles County will be different if your work is successful.
Short-term, Cause Concerts hopes to raise enough to provide a $1000 check per application for assistance, in addition to providing free additional resources for mental health support for the industry. We know there are approximately 3,000 applications for assistance so far between the two main industry charities, so we have work to do!
Long-term goals are to continue our work with Backline and Sweet Relief to help fund the 9-8-8 Suicide Crisis Hotline, and to raise additional funds to be a stopgap for the next four years, which will benefit not only musicians and the music industry, but the City of LA and the rest of the United States as large.
We know this is a HUGE goal, and we can't do that with the help of the City, and possibly a larger organization like the Dodgers.
Approximately how many people will be impacted by this project, program, or initiative?
Direct Impact: 1,000
Indirect Impact: 4,000
