LifeScore Hunter
Canoga Park High School plans the implementation of LifeScore
The LAUSD emphasizes six Social Emotional Learning domains that are essential for student development:
Growth Mindset
Self-Efficacy
Self-Awareness
Self-Management
Responsible Decision-Making
Social Awareness
LifeScore offers a promising tool to support and monitor our progress and provide resources. Its alignment with our district’s SEL framework makes it a potentially transformative resource in helping meet the physical, emotional and behavioral needs of the students and staff.

What is your understanding of the issue that you are seeking to address?
At Canoga Park High School, approximately 90% of students live at or below the poverty line. This economic hardship creates significant barriers to accessing adequate healthcare—particularly mental and emotional health services. Many students face chronic stress related to food insecurity, housing instability, and community violence. These challenges often manifest as anxiety, depression, and trauma, impacting academic performance, attendance, and overall well-being. With limited school-based resources, students frequently go without the support they need to manage these issues. LifeScore aims to address this critical gap by providing accessible, student-centered mental and emotional health resource support to foster resilience, self-awareness, and long-term personal growth. Currently there is no way to accurately measure and track if students and staff get the support they need, including peer support. The program also hits on concepts important in the STEAM education curriculum.
Describe the project, program, or initiative this grant will support to address the issue.
The grant will support LifeScore: Empowering Quality of Life and wellbeing at Canoga Park High School, a student/staff-centered initiative designed to provide equitable access to physical, emotional and mental health support. LifeScore blends digital wellbeing tools, including direct connect to the resources they need with in-person guidance to help users improve health and build resilience, self-regulation, and emotional literacy.
Through a structured, yet flexible, curriculum delivered via an accessible app and classroom integration, students will engage in guided reflections, mindfulness practices, journaling prompts, and goal-setting exercises. Trained staff and educators will facilitate group sessions, monitor student engagement, and ensure culturally responsive support is embedded throughout.
This initiative directly targets the needs of low-income students by eliminating common barriers to care—such as cost, stigma, and lack of access—while embedding wellbeing into daily school life. The goal is to create a sustainable model that strengthens students’ emotional foundations and contributes to healthier academic and life outcomes. This project is scalable to every school in LA County. Because the App is a technology that hits on every element of the STEAM curriculum, the program will begin in STEAM subject classrooms. Users gain insights into their physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing and will access specific tasks, recommendations, and resources to improve.
Describe how Los Angeles County will be different if your work is successful.
If LifeScore Hunter is successful, Los Angeles County will see a measurable shift in how physical, mental, and emotional health is supported in schools—especially in under-resourced communities. Students and staff at Canoga Park High School will develop stronger emotional intelligence, healthier coping skills, and a greater sense of agency over their wellbeing. This foundation will lead to improved academic performance, reduced disciplinary incidents, higher graduation rates, and greater long-term civic engagement.
On a broader scale, LifeScore will serve as a scalable model for integrating physical, mental and emotional wellness into public education across the county. As more schools adopt this approach, Los Angeles County will experience a generation of youth who are not only more emotionally resilient but also more empowered to break cycles of poverty and inequity. Over time, this cultural shift will help build a more compassionate, mentally healthy, and socially stable community.
Approximately how many people will be impacted by this project, program, or initiative?
