What is your understanding of the issue that you are seeking to address?
The Blueprint Empowerment Academy seeks to expand its proven youth development & education program in response to deep-rooted disparities facing middle and high school youth ages 12–19 across LA County. These individuals, especially those from low-income or marginalized communities, are navigating adolescence without access to the critical support needed to thrive. Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs)—including trauma, neglect, and household dysfunction—have lasting effects on their mental, emotional, and physical well-being. Without intervention, these youth are more likely to struggle academically, socially, and behaviourally. Our comprehensive model integrates mental health support, academic enrichment, personal development, workforce preparation, and family engagement—ensuring a whole-person approach to youth development. Grant funding with help with the urgent need to scale this model to provide consistent, structured support for youth facing compounded barriers across the county.
Describe the project, program, or initiative this grant will support to address the issue.
The Blueprint Empowerment Academy Youth Development and Education Program is a transformative initiative designed to empower middle and high school youth ages 12-19 across LA County. Targeting inner-city youth from marginalized communities, this program directly addresses the developmental gaps & systemic inequities that hinder their academic, emotional, and social growth. Through a comprehensive, trauma-informed framework, participants receive life skills & personal development training, financial literacy education, and STEAM-based learning experiences to stimulate curiosity & innovation. The program also integrates employment readiness, leadership development, and career pathway exploration to prepare youth for the workforce & post-secondary opportunities. Delivered in schools, community centers, & partner sites across the county, the Academy provides a safe, nurturing, and culturally relevant environment where youth can build resilience, gain confidence, and set meaningful goals. Special attention is given to addressing the effects of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) through mental wellness strategies & family engagement. We are committed to building a generation of self-aware, motivated, and capable young leaders who are equipped to overcome barriers, succeed in school and work, and contribute to the well-being of their communities. This grant will allow Blueprint to scale and deepen its impact countywide, ensuring more youth have access to the support they need
Describe how Los Angeles County will be different if your work is successful.
If The Blueprint Empowerment Academy’s Youth Development and Education Program is successful, LA County will see a measurable shift in the life trajectories of marginalized youth ages 12–19. Success means increased high school graduation rates, improved mental health, and greater participation in post-secondary education & career paths. Youth who once faced barriers rooted in trauma, poverty, and systemic inequities will emerge as confident, capable individuals. Neighborhoods historically impacted by disinvestment will benefit from a generation of young leaders equipped with life skills, financial literacy, and career readiness. Families will be more engaged, schools will see improved student behavior and academic performance, and local employers will gain a more prepared workforce. Our model envisions a ripple effect—empowered youth influencing peers, strengthening families, and transforming communities. LA County will be healthier, more equitable, and more resilient.
