Equal Employment Through Generative AI
Jobs for Humanity (JFH) currently delivers a generative AI-powered employment platform that matches the right person to the right role with the right employer based on skills and potential, not personal background. Maintaining our commitment to closing the gap between underserved populations and employers, we propose to develop a generative AI-powered chatbot for the platform that offers personalized career guidance, including training recommendations, CV feedback, and related services.

What is your understanding of the issue that you are seeking to address?
JFH’s mission is to promote a fair future by connecting historically disadvantaged people with employers seeking high-performing, diverse teams. As our platform grows, there is an urgent need to evolve from primarily hands-on, personalized services to scalable solutions that maximize job-seeker readiness. Our current human-powered coaching model, while impactful, is not scalable in the long term. Many job-seekers from underrepresented groups can benefit from receiving support and advice to guide them toward professional development and training opportunities that will advance their long-term success. While one-on-one coaching services can meet this requirement, limitations associated with coach availability, time zones, cost, and language barriers limit the efficiency and accessibility of human-led coaching.
Describe the project, program, or initiative this grant will support to address the issue.
The inclusion of an AI-powered chatbot will help mitigate the supply and demand gap in coaching services by improving efficiency and accessibility, and by reducing the cost of providing services. An AI chatbot can offer around-the-clock support to a broad swath of job-seekers. By 2030, JFH aims to be the world’s premier talent agency for marginalized talent, advancing the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals around decent work, economic growth, and inclusivity. A key barrier to achieving this goal is our ability to offer high-quality, accessible, and personalized support to all job-seekers. The AI-powered chatbot addresses this challenge directly by offering job-seekers immediate, 24/7 guidance regardless of region, time zone, or language. Complementing our human-powered coaching services, the chatbot addresses easily resolved inquiries, freeing the JFH team to focus on deeper mentorship and career guidance. By embedding this tool into the JFH platform, we will not only meet growing demand but also lay the foundation for a more inclusive and globally scalable model, bringing us one step closer to achieving the JFH 2030 vision.
Describe how Los Angeles County will be different if your work is successful.
While we already have a presence in LA County, the creation and integration of this chatbot into our systems will allow us to better care for those job-seekers who require our assistance. Operationally, the chatbot enhances efficiency by automating routine interactions, such as initial resume reviews, general career path guidance, and recommendations for relevant training courses. This automation frees our human career coaches to focus on more complex, nuanced career guidance scenarios requiring deeper personal interaction. With all of this assistance provided by the chatbot, we will better support LA County's upcoming workforce in that we can allocate hyper-specialized coaching and care for job-seekers that face niche challenges, especially in the wake of the recent wildfires that have plagued the state.
