2025 Grants Challenge

Empowering, Cultivating, and Resourcing Communities Through LA2050

Idea by HELPME

HELPME is a nonprofit uplifting vulnerable individuals—especially the homeless and medically fragile—by providing housing, transportation, meals, hygiene, clothing, and job training. We’re seeking funding for “CALL 855-855-HELP,” a proven, community-based crisis response initiative. With private success already in place, we’re ready to expand our impact and ensure no one in need is left behind.

In what stage of innovation is this project, program, or initiative?

Expand existing project, program, or initiative (expanding and continuing ongoing, successful work)

What is your understanding of the issue that you are seeking to address?

We are seeking to address the high relapse rate and the inability of many individuals to complete supportive programs due to unstable living conditions. The housing and linkages we provide play an intricate and magnificent role in ensuring individuals are stable enough to enroll in and remain engaged with critical services like healthcare, employment support, and rehabilitation. Our initiative, guided by the slogan “I am coming home,” offers more than shelter—it represents a safe, supportive return to self-sufficiency. By creating a dependable foundation, we aim to improve both mental and medical well-being, reduce recidivism, and support lasting transformation for those in need.

Describe the project, program, or initiative this grant will support to address the issue.

The issue we are addressing is the critical gap in stable housing and essential support services that prevents vulnerable individuals, especially homeless and medically fragile patients—from successfully completing re-entry and recovery programs. Without safe housing, access to hygiene, proper clothing, reliable transportation, and life skills training, these individuals face a substantial risk of relapses and prolonged instability.
HELPME is a nonprofit organization dedicated to closing this gap by providing comprehensive, hands-on support to those in need. Our team works directly in the community to deliver immediate assistance and long-term resources. Tangibly, we provide safe housing options, distribute hygiene kits and clothing, coordinate transportation to medical appointments and essential services, and offer daily life skills coaching. Through these combined efforts, we empower individuals to regain their independence and build a foundation for lasting stability.

Describe how Los Angeles County will be different if your work is successful.

If successful, HELPME’s expanded program will transform Los Angeles County by increasing access to stable housing and reliable transportation for vulnerable individuals, reducing barriers to recovery and long-term self-sufficiency. Though this initiative has been privately funded and successfully implemented, grant funding will allow us to scale and meet LA2050’s community goals. With added resources, we can connect people to critical services faster and more effectively, strengthening community ties and collective progress. This support will ease financial and operational strain, enabling HELPME to assist more individuals in urgent need. Our proven success shows the potential for lasting change. With funding, we can expand our reach, deliver immediate help, and build a healthier Los Angeles. We cannot do this alone—but together, we can create sustainable, meaningful impact.

Approximately how many people will be impacted by this project, program, or initiative?
