What is your understanding of the issue that you are seeking to address?
I have been an entrepreneur for over 25 years and a humanitarian advocate for child protection and education. Since relocating to LA, I've made it my home. As a mother of four, it's essential for my children to thrive in a safe environment. In my first few months driving in LA,I often felt unsafe due to limited traffic regulations, especially with my kids in the car. I noticed that many single drivers misuse carpool lanes and drive recklessly. This made me question the absence of mandatory child safety stickers, unlike in Europe and rest of the world it mendatory as a car seats. There is a lack of public awareness about Child car safety sticker in Los Angeles and throughout the state. The number of child fatalities on the road remains significant, and parents often struggle to decide when to have their child in the car, whether on long drives or short trips. Additionally, most information or stickers promoting child seat safety are not readily available in public spaces. SAFETY FIRST.
Describe the project, program, or initiative this grant will support to address the issue.
The main goals of this initiative are to consistently foster community awareness about Child Car Safety Stickers (bumper) over the years. This awareness will be created through engagement in community spaces such as parks, libraries, schools, social media, and other public areas, emphasizing the importance of displaying the sticker when a child is on board.
Specific objective 1A: involves developing a distinct community child car safety sticker for Los Angeles County, collaborating with parents and new mothers to enhance the initiative's acceptance and usage.
Specific objective 1B: is to partner with local businesses, non-profits, cities, Los Angeles County, the DMV, and highway patrol to maximize outreach.
For specific objective 1C: we aim to advocate for lawmakers to mandate the use of child safety stickers in vehicles, similar to requirements for driver’s licenses, car insurance, and DMV registrations.
Specific objective 1D: focuses on making these stickers available in local stores, child-friendly sections of supermarkets, WIC program offices, hospitals, and more. Furthermore, this community safety initiative aims to create child car safety stickers that help prevent accidents caused by reckless drivers when children are present in vehicles.
