Building a Healthier LA: Community-Powered Wellness for Lasting Equity and Resilience
Peak Wellness is a community-powered program making holistic health—movement, stress relief, and social connection—accessible across LA. With this grant, we’ll expand free and low-cost Pilates, meditations, hikes, and wellness events in underserved areas, helping Angelenos build lasting habits that support physical and mental well-being. Our goal: a healthier, more connected Los Angeles for all.

What is the primary issue area that your application will impact?
Health care access
In which areas of Los Angeles will you be directly working?
City of Los Angeles (select only if your project has a citywide benefit)
In what stage of innovation is this project, program, or initiative?
Pilot or new project, program, or initiative (testing or implementing a new idea)
What is your understanding of the issue that you are seeking to address?
Peak Wellness is responding to a rising public health concern: the disconnect between knowledge of wellness and the ability to practice it in a sustainable, accessible, and embodied way. In fast-paced, high-stress environments like Los Angeles, many individuals—especially young adults—struggle with chronic stress, burnout, hormonal imbalances, and disordered eating patterns. Despite widespread access to wellness content online, what’s often missing is structure, accountability, community, and support to turn information into long-term, nourishing routines.
We understand that well-being is not just about physical fitness or mental health in isolation—it’s about creating environments where movement, mindfulness, and community intersect in daily life. Peak Wellness exists to bridge this gap by offering an inclusive, community-based approach to health that helps individuals reconnect with their bodies, regulate their nervous systems, and build habits that are both joyful and sustainable.
Describe the project, program, or initiative this grant will support to address the issue.
This grant will support the launch and expansion of the Peak Wellness Membership Program, a holistic wellness initiative designed to make health practices more sustainable, accessible, and community-driven. The program provides members with a structured weekly schedule that includes:
4 live online Pilates classes focused on strength, mobility, and somatic awareness
4 community hikes or runs to support cardiovascular health and stress relief
4 guided meditations to promote nervous system regulation and mindfulness
1 monthly social wellness event to foster connection and belonging
Together, these offerings help individuals create balanced habits rooted in movement, mental well-being, and social support. By addressing common barriers like cost, lack of routine, and isolation, the program supports long-term physical and emotional health.
Grant funding will be used to expand access by subsidizing membership for underserved individuals, build new community partnerships, hire additional instructors, and develop digital resources to enhance engagement and education. Our goal is to create a community-based model of well-being that empowers people to feel strong, connected, supported—in body, mind, and soul. This grant will allow us to reach hundreds more Angelenos with tools that prevent illness, reduce stress, and build resilience. Together, we can shape a healthier, more connected Los Angeles—one step, one breath, and one community at a time.
Describe how Los Angeles County will be different if your work is successful.
If Peak Wellness is successful, Los Angeles County will be home to a more connected, resilient, balanced, and empowered community. Individuals—especially young adults navigating high-stress environments—will have access to consistent, affordable tools to care for their bodies, regulate their stress, and build sustainable habits rooted in movement, mindfulness, and community.
Our work will help shift wellness from a luxury to a shared, accessible practice. Residents will feel less isolated and more supported through community hikes, group meditations, and social wellness events that foster belonging. Over time, this preventative, integrative approach will contribute to reduced burnout, improved mental and physical health outcomes, and a stronger culture of well-being across diverse communities in the county.
By embedding wellness into daily life—not just as information, but as experience—Peak Wellness aims to make Los Angeles not only a creative capital, but a health-conscious one too.
