Bridge to Home: Community-Centered Solution for Affordable Housing Access
The Housing Navigation Hub is a pioneering one-stop agency that simplifies access to affordable housing for low-income individuals and families in Los Angeles County. Through personalized case management, application assistance, and on-site support services like transportation, utility aid, food distribution, and health care access, we remove barriers that often prevent people from securing stable housing. This grant will help us expand our reach, streamline our services, and promote long-term housing stability across underserved communities.

What is your understanding of the issue that you are seeking to address?
The homelessness crisis in Los Angeles is a growing emergency fueled by skyrocketing housing costs, economic hardship, and systemic inequality. New housing projects do open frequently in L.A., but getting access is not easy. Many individuals are forced to leave jobs just to complete an application for a waiting list, only to encounter long lines, confusing applications, and narrow submission windows. Online systems are often inaccessible, and property managers rarely respond. Section 8 waitlists stretch 4–8 years, and affordable housing criteria are difficult to understand. Many are disqualified for earning too little for government benefits, yet not enough for housing—leaving them stuck. Families also face challenges finding housing near work or schools, with long commutes due to limited transportation. This is a daily reality for thousands of Angelenos—hardworking individuals and families trying to survive in a system that feels impossible to navigate.
Describe the project, program, or initiative this grant will support to address the issue.
We maintain a curated list of housing options across CA, including Section 8, affordable, low-income, and tax credit units, along with income limits, AMI, preferences (disabled, seniors, families), and deadlines. We offer one-stop personalized assistance, matching families to units, completing and mailing applications, and adding cover letters that explain each situation. Once they become our clients, they receive the lists of properties available every month, and they are free to come to get assistance in completing the application. Because we already have their information their stay in our office is less time. In every visit, we provide transportation (taxi vouchers or bus passes) and we give them food or personal hygiene products or anything we have available to take home.
We also connect families to rental assistance, deposit help, utility relief, moving costs and health insurance enrollment. Some families prefer moving out of Los Angeles and we help them with that as well.
Describe how Los Angeles County will be different if your work is successful.
We know our work is already impactful. With your strategic partnership and compassionate service, we will innovate a model that fosters long-term housing stability and prevents homelessness. Our impact will go beyond individual cases—communities will be stabilizing, and trust in the housing system will be restored. Families will no longer have to miss work, neglect responsibilities, or face the housing system alone. My New House will become a trusted resource where people will receive the support they need to secure and maintain housing. More Angelenos will be housed, breaking cycles of poverty and displacement. Residents will gain the skills to navigate housing options confidently, reducing confusion and barriers. As stability grows, public systems like shelters, hospitals, and social services will experience less strain. Our efforts will bring renewed dignity, hope, and opportunity—creating a more compassionate, accessible, and resilient Los Angeles for all.
