Enchanted Teaching is a modern early childhood education program that addresses the LA2050 “learn-STEAM Education” issue by enhancing the early learning of children (ages 0-3) and their parents within the Los Angeles community. Public Counsel (2024) article announced, “Los Angeles County faces a critical need for childcare, especially for infants and toddlers.” Enchanted Teaching is designed specifically to teach infants and toddlers at all developmental levels, including children with special needs. Additionally, we offer on-site parenting classes to fully support the families we serve. An inclusive classroom preschool model will prepare children to learn STEAM educational skills that they will be able to build upon in their K-12 education. First 5 LA recognized that there is a need for a more progressive and specialized approach to early learning. The key to enhancing the quality of the early care and education system lies in the professionalization of the workforce” (First 5 LA).
Describe the project, program, or initiative this grant will support to address the issue.
Enchanted teaching is an educational program developed to incorporate multiple research-based, high-quality, inclusive education. The three original enchanted educators (Natty, Adri, and Maggie) have collaborated to facilitate a modern family educational program that will not only support an inclusive learning environment for the child but will also integrate supportive learning for the families. The Enchanted Teaching Educators understand that it takes a village to raise a child, and our innovative approach will nurture a supportive and educated community.
The Enchanted Teaching program will include three classrooms: a younger infant (0-12 months) infant classroom, a (13-24 months) infant classroom, and a (24-36 months) toddler classroom. Each class will focus on the importance of nature, social-emotion, nutrition, health, and wellness for young children and their families. The curriculum program integrates the HEI School curriculum and teaching techniques with STEAM sensory learning. The environment will be aligned with the HEI Schools innovative low-stimulation approach to learning and arranged to follow the Brain SET theory for inclusive classrooms. The Enchanted Teaching will be the seventh center in the entire USA to implement the HEI Schools curriculum, the second in California, and the first in LA County. This holistic pedagogy, combined with the family-centered parent cafes and Abiertas Puertas parenting curriculum workshops, is what makes our program progressive.
Describe how Los Angeles County will be different if your work is successful.
Los Angeles will benefit from our infant and toddler services, as there is a strong need in the Pasadena area after the wildfires. San Gabriel Regional Center would benefit from our Venomization to support children with special needs, as the Regional Center has a long list of children who need a place to receive services. Los Angeles will also benefit from hosting the first HEI School curriculum model school with inclusive education. We plan to extend workshops for early childhood educators and collaborate with local colleges to share our modern approach, high-quality, inclusive education, which is in high demand.
Our parenting and Momm-and-me workshops will offer a wide range of support and resources to the LA community, as they will be open to the public. Los Angeles community will benefit by having more competent and supported parents. The family wellness sessions will help families learn how to regulate and be more centered with each other.
