What is your understanding of the issue that you are seeking to address?
THE HURT HELP GROUP understands the importance of addressing the interwoven challenges of mental health, addiction, homelessness, and the plights faced by disadvantaged communities. Our understanding of these issues is shaped by a holistic and comprehensive approach, recognizing the complexity and interdependence of these societal problems. THE HURT HELP GROUP acknowledges that these issues are interconnected and cannot be effectively addressed in isolation. Mental health disorders can lead to addiction as individuals seek coping mechanisms. We understand that addiction can lead to job loss and financial instability, resulting in homelessness. Homelessness, in turn, exacerbates mental health issues and makes overcoming addiction more challenging. This cycle is particularly vicious in disadvantaged communities where resources are scarce. We understand their issues and aim to break the cycles of disadvantage communities and create pathways to recovery and stability for those we serve.
Describe the project, program, or initiative this grant will support to address the issue.
This grant will be supporting THE HURT HELP GROUP in a project that invest in the growth and development of the most vulnerable families in high-needs areas. Our primary focus is on acknowledging the significance of investing in the growth and development of the most vulnerable youth and families in high-needs areas, encompassing students attending schools with a notable concentration of low-income students, high absenteeism, and poor performance rates in LA County. The needs we are addressing is the high numbers of addiction use, addiction overdoses, criminal activity, mis guided youth, and low attendance at school of students. Our organization has had a substantial impact on those we serve, with 85% of participants in our youth and adult programs witnessing positive changes in behaviors, academics, college preparation, and conflict resolution skills. This positive transformation not only reflects our dedication to overall individual development but also contributes to the achievement of our program goals and the growth of our enrollment. In our behavioral counseling, youth tutoring and college readiness programs, 35% of participants were African American, 35% were Hispanic, and 15% were English language learners, all showing improved academic performance. Through education and awareness, we lay the foundation for a future where every individual has the opportunity to thrive and flourish in both body and mind.

To measure advancements in academic performance and increase high school graduation rates within high-needs Los County schools, we will employ academic assessments, progress reports, and standardized test scores. This ongoing academic monitoring will provide valuable insights into the effectiveness of our academic support initiatives.
