What is your understanding of the issue that you are seeking to address?
There is a significant lack of education about consent and driving under the influence for teen girls and boys. This is a critical issue: 1 in 5 women and 1 in 16 men are sexually assaulted while in college, often due to a lack of consent education in high school. Additionally, teen drivers are three times more likely than adults to be involved in a fatal crash due to alcohol impairment. Comprehensive education on these topics can reduce these alarming statistics and foster safer, more responsible behavior among teens.
Describe the project, program, or initiative this grant will support to address the issue.
We are combining dynamic sports training with comprehensive consent education for young men and athletes. This program will support their sports goals and aspirations while empowering them with crucial knowledge about consent. We will teach these young men not only how to be protectors for girls and women but also how to protect themselves. Far too many teen boys jeopardize their futures and scholarship opportunities by driving under the influence or committing assaults.
We are providing a separate consent course for teen girls, which has shown amazing results in the past. This will take place on homecoming and prom days. Girls will receive beauty services for their school dance and go through an educational session about consent. They'll learn the power of their voice, what to do if they feel endangered, how to ask for support, and how to set up a safety plan with their guardians. All students will be provided with essential resources like clothing, hygiene and wellness products, beauty services, and more.
