Prosperity Market Helps 60+ Black Businesses Thrive

Posted

[The following mid-year update was written by the organization and then sent to us for further sharing.]

Prosperity Market is a mobile farmers market featuring black farmers, food producers, & chefs. We travel through LA making it easy to support local, black-owned businesses while creating food access. We host pop-up farmers markets, an online marketplace, & community events while also providing resources and support to businesses within our network. This year we will officially launch our mobile farmers market which is literally a farmers market on wheels and a food truck in one.

In November 2023 we debuted our mobile farmers market at the LA Auto Show. This was a great opportunity to showcase our state of the art, solar powered & electric farmers market on wheels. We were able to introduce Prosperity Market to thousands of attendees each day over the 10 day show. The data and feedback gained at the auto show is helping us gauge customer wants and develop our strategy for the official launch of our mobile farmers market later this year.

The LA2050 Grants Challenge has helped us further our initiatives by supporting the acquisition and development of key infrastructure which will allow us to scale our operations, and in turn help more local, black-owned businesses build operational capacity to scale.

Our approach solving income inequality lies in helping black-owned businesses build thriving businesses and circulate dollars longer through overlooked communities. With LA2050’s support, we’ve been able to work closely with 20 of our regular vendors to develop our vendor resource tools and programming which will then extend to our expanded roster of 60+ businesses. Since the beginning of the grant period we have seen a 52% increase in vendor sales and a 37% increase in transactions at our pop-up farmers markets. We are working individually with our vendors on collaborative marketing efforts and recently featured 3 vendors on a KTLA appearance, and another vendor on a CBS segment. We also provide tailored support to fit the specific needs of our vendors so they can meet the demand of upcoming retail and wholesale opportunities.
