New Fellow Mariam Bagdady Joins Goldhirsh Foundation and its LA2050 Initiative

The Goldhirsh Foundation and its LA2050 initiative announced today that Mariam Bagdady has joined the staff of the organization, as a Social Media and Communications Fellow.

“The Goldhirsh Foundation takes pride in identifying the brightest and most innovative emerging ideas, organizations, and individuals, and providing them the tools to best support their success,” Tara Roth, president of the Goldhirsh Foundation, said. “We are happy to welcome Mariam to our team.”

Bagdady is currently pursuing her bachelor’s degree in communications at the USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism with an emphasis on law and policy. She has a passion for writing, and her work has been published in multiple outlets, including The Daily Nexus, The Garnette Report, TMZ, and Flaunt Magazine. She is devoted to being an advocate for all communities and aims to help Los Angeles become the best that it can be — whether it be addressing racial inequity, food insecurity, or prison reform.

“I am both honored and thrilled to be a part of the Goldhirsh Foundation team — one so dedicated to providing Los Angeles and its residents with the best resources available,” Bagdady says. “I hope that through my time at the Foundation, I can be a pivotal part in Los Angeles’ strive to be ruled by passion, not injustice."

Bagdady, along with her colleagues, works on a wide range of platforms and projects, including the signature annual LA2050 Grants Challenge, celebrating its tenth year. The LA2050 Grants Challenge is an open call for ideas to make LA the best place to learn, create, play, connect, and live. In 2023, more than $2.5 million was awarded to 42 organizations to implement their winning ideas – $1 million from the Goldhirsh Foundation and the rest from a sextet of leading Foundation partners.

Through the LA2050 Grants Challenge, members of the public vote online for the issues that will receive grant funding. Since the initiative’s inception, more than 3,100 proposals have been submitted from approximately 2,100 LA-based social impact organizations. All of those organizations are available for anyone to search, view, and donate to at the LA2050 Ideas Hub.
