New Fellow Gabrielle Garcia Joins Goldhirsh Foundation and its LA2050 Initiative

The Goldhirsh Foundation and its LA2050 initiative announced today that Gabrielle Garcia has joined the staff of the organization as a social media and communications fellow.

“LA2050 is a hub for ideas and impact,” Tara Roth, president of the Goldhirsh Foundation, said. “Our organization – like Los Angeles itself – is at its best when we work together with passion, drive, and discipline to make positive change. We are delighted to welcome Gabrielle to the team.”

Garcia graduated from University of California, Santa Cruz with a bachelors in creative writing. She is a writer with a tenacity for storytelling across mediums, and she’s worked in film, music, and writing. She aims to build a better Los Angeles through advocacy work and equitable access to resources for Angelenos.

“As someone from Lincoln Heights, I am grateful to contribute to building equity in Los Angeles for underserved populations and our multicultural communities,” Garcia said. “I am very excited to work with the Goldhirsh Foundation and LA2050 to support our region.”

Garcia, along with her colleagues, will work on a wide range of platforms and projects including the signature annual LA2050 Grants Challenge, now entering its tenth year. The LA2050 Grants Challenge is an open call for ideas to make LA the best place to learn, create, play, connect, and live. Last year, more than $2.6 million was awarded to 37 organizations to implement their winning ideas – $1 million from the Goldhirsh Foundation, and the rest from a quartet of leading foundation partners.

Through the LA2050 Grants Challenge, members of the public vote online for the issues that will receive grant funding. Since the initiative’s inception, more than 2,500 proposals have been submitted from approximately 1,800 LA-based social impact organizations. All of those organizations are available for anyone to search, view, and donate to at the LA2050 Ideas Hub.
