We’re proud to share that, last night, we won a Shorty Impact Award!

We took home a Silver in the Original Content - Video category, for our documentary, “Join The Movement.”

Our fellow highly deserving Finalists in the category were the winner, “Gone Native,” by Moore + Associates and Joey Clift, and receiving Gold, MTV Entertainment Studios’ “Teen Wolf: Holland and Colton Mental Health is Health.”

The Shorty Impact Awards are the cause-centric spin-off of the famous Shorty Awards celebrating the best social media and digital work. Earlier this year, LA2050’s newsletter won a Shorty Award.

In the LA2050 video, viewers meet the leaders of three of the scores of extraordinary organizations who, during the past decade, are LA2050 Grants Challenge winners:

  • Dominique and Ilka Perkins, who met while incarcerated and, upon release in 2019, started People’s Pottery Project.
  • Rudy Espinoza, executive director of Inclusive Action for the City, and Caridad Vasquez, who helped lead the effort to legalize street vending.
  • Jamiah Hargins, founder of Crop Swap LA, which services food deserts - places in urban areas that don’t have access to fresh fruits and vegetables.

The video also features commentary from Tara Roth, president of the Goldhirsh Foundation and LA2050, and concludes with a montage of portraits of dozens of the extraordinary people who do urgent work every day in communities throughout the vast county of Los Angeles, California.
