Five Ways to Make LA the Best Place to CONNECT

Posted

CONNECT represents our aspiration for a Los Angeles where all residents are empowered to meaningfully engage with their communities and participate in civic processes. By the year 2050, we envision a region with abundant platforms for residents to voice their opinions and influence decision-makers. Our voting rates and volunteerism will lead the nation, and an expanded, accessible transportation network will facilitate the easy flow of people and ideas.

Below, learn more about the five 2021 My LA2050 Grants Challenge grantees making LA the best place to CONNECT, and what you can do right now to participate in their work!

$100,000 Winner: Children Now is breaking down the barriers that stand in the way of kids achieving their full potential through a whole-child approach.

Did you know that California ranks 35th out of 50 states in children's wellbeing? Join The Children's Movement for access to up-to-date information on pressing issues and opportunities to demonstrate your support for our state's children.

$50,000 Winner: Center for Restorative Justice Works (CRJW) provides free family reunification and support services to children of incarcerated parents, restoring relationships and creating awareness to bring radical change to the criminal justice system.

During the pandemic, CRJW has continued to connect families to their incarcerated loved ones through virtual visits, letter writing, and video messages. Learn more.

$25,000 Winner: Los Angeles Center for Law and Justice (LACLJ) secures justice for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault and empowers them to create their own futures.

Since 1973, LACLJ has provided legal advocacy to low-income and primarily immigrant and Latino populations in Los Angeles. Watch this video for more.

$15,000 Winner: human-I-T empowers people through technology and information to achieve their full potential. The organization works to shrink the digital divide by providing free and low-cost devices and internet access.

If you have old devices taking up space (think laptops, smartphones, scanners, keyboards, or "anything with a cord"), human-I-T will repurpose and redistribute them to someone in need. Donate your technology.

$10,000 Winner: The Civics Center (TCC) is dedicated to building the foundations of youth civic engagement and voter participation in high schools through education, organizing, and advocacy.

TCC publishes materials for students and educators seeking to encourage voter registration and preregistration on their campuses. Check out the resources.
