10 Places Honoring Martin Luther King Jr. in LA

In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, we created this map to highlight some of the many locations around Los Angeles County which memorialize Dr. King and his message. 🕊️⁠



1. Martin Luther King Jr Blvd. is a 7-mile-long street in Los Angeles, renamed in 1983 to honor the civil rights leader. ⁠


2. The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Tree Grove is located in Los Angeles within Kenneth Hahn State Recreation Area. The Memorial Tree Grove features an obelisk inscribed with some of Dr. King’s most inspiring words.


3. The Martin Luther King Jr. Park is located in South Los Angeles. This park is a universal access playground and features a therapeutic recreation center.⁠


4. Martin Luther King Jr Elementary School is located in South Los Angeles. In the spirit of Dr. King, this school “prepares students to be productive responsible citizens in a changing society.” ⁠


5. King Drew Magnet High School is located in Willowbrook, and features the public art sculpture, “Rev. King, Jr. and Dr. Drew,” by Tina Allen. ⁠


6. Martin Luther King Elementary School is located in Compton. King Elementary School vision follows in the footsteps of its namesake: “to inspire, engage, and empower the leaders of tomorrow.” ⁠


7. The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Memorial is located in Compton, near Compton City Hall.⁠


8. The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Library is located in Carson.


9. The Martin Luther King Jr. Park & Community Center is located in Long Beach. The park features a mural which echoes Dr. King’s message, “The Content of Their Characters.”⁠


10. The Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Park is located in Pomona. This scenic space includes a playground area, soccer field, and basketball court.⁠
