Eight Los Angeles-area nonprofit organizations will receive a total of $200,000 in funding for non-partisan voter engagement work for the 2024 election, the Goldhirsh Foundation and its 

These grants, selected and distributed by the Goldhirsh Foundation with generous support from The Eli and Edythe Broad Foundation, are the latest additions to the annual LA2050 Grants Challenge. Now, 68 Los Angeles County impact organizations have received funding totaling more than $3 million, from a coalition of 10 foundations. (

The eight nonprofits selected are working to increase voter turnout and expand access to non-partisan information that can help people make informed decisions – in many cases focusing on educating and mobilizing communities often underrepresented in civic processes.

"A robust democracy is one that is truly representative, and ensures that all voices are heard,” said Tara Roth, president of the Goldhirsh Foundation.

Roth added: “We are grateful to the organizations that are working to strengthen our local democracy, and we are delighted to partner with The Eli and Edythe Broad Foundation to make these awards possible, given our shared commitment to investing in the future of Los Angeles.”

The eight nonprofit organizations receiving funds are:

encouraging its formerly-incarcerated clients to engage in the civic process through curriculum on the history and impact of voting, as well as a non-partisan ballot review.

producing a Get the Vote Out Hackathon that’s primary objective is to increase voting participation among youth.

California Immigrant Policy Center (CIPC), 

supporting voter education and engagement in immigrant-dense areas of Los Angeles, including Little Bangladesh, Cerritos, Artesia, and others.

Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights (CHIRLA), 

providing non-partisan, objective information in Spanish and English about ballot measures, as well as candidates for local, state, and general elections.

hosting eight non-partisan ballot parties, weekly Election Support Zooms, and a Ballot Prop Info Session.

educating participants about key issues on the ballot and their impact, and distributing non-partisan voter information in English and Spanish.

People Organized for Westside Renewal (POWER), 

educating the Skid Row community on the impact of voting and facilitating access to voting for the unhoused population.

canvassing to increase working-class, Latino voter turnout throughout Southeast LA for the November election.

), seeks to advance human life and well-being, and catalyze human potential. We achieve this by connecting the best emerging innovations with the financial, social, and human capital to make them thrive.

Eight Los Angeles Nonprofits Receiving Funds For Non-Partisan Voter Engagement Work For the 2024 Election

, we heard from impact leaders from across Los Angeles and this nation.

One of the most impactful conversations came from our panel on volunteerism hosted by AmeriCorps CEO Michael D. Smith. Our panelists included Helen Leung of LA Más, Quan Huynh of Southern California, Defy Ventures, and Romel Pascual from CicLAvia.

From sharing their first memories of falling in love with service to the way volunteers help to power their organizations, our panelists shared their lifelong experience of volunteerism and its power for good.

The Goldhirsh Foundation seeks public input to determine winners of the My LA2050 Activation Challenge. Public voting begins today.

Starting today, Angelenos can cast their vote to determine who will win the 2018 

, an open call for ideas that will activate 100,000 Angelenos to make LA the best place to learn, create, play, connect, and live. A total of $1,000,000 will be awarded among five organizations to carry out their proposal. Each organization will receive a total of $200,000 (over two years) and

 that will engage Angelenos to make a specific, tangible impact by 2020. The Goldhirsh Foundation's finalists for the My LA2050 Activation Challenge are:

Public voting will close June 29th, and winners will be announced on July 9th.
