Reporting to the Board of Directors, Aviva is seeking an experienced, growth-oriented executive leader to carry on the legacy of their current CEO and strong history of programmatic excellence. A clear and decisive communicator, this leader will maintain internal and external relationships, and continue developing critical community partnerships in Los Angeles County. Overseeing an annual budget of $19M and more than 200 passionate and committed professionals, the ideal candidate is a focused and collaborative leader who advances the organization's mission in the community. An incoming CEO will continue to foster and empower our team while maintaining the positive, innovative, and empathic culture that has been a hallmark of Aviva's success and growth.
An ideal leader is experienced in strategic planning and has prior experience in direct service organizations. Key priorities for success will include forging and expanding partnerships, expanding new and existing funding sources, and mentorship with the Executive team and Board of Directors. The ideal candidate has a passion for working with underserved communities and a strong understanding of the funding and political landscape impacting Individuals experiencing foster care and homelessness.
Roles & responsibilities
-Manage all day-to-day operations of Aviva, including administration, programming, development, human resources, finance management and strategic planning.
-Oversee contract implementation, expansion and compliance with various government contracts.
-Ensure financial stability and sustainability by maintaining healthy cash flow and adequate reserves.
-Identify, assess and inform the Board of Directors of internal and external issues that affect the organization, including organizational relevance to the community and its overall effectiveness.
-Cultivate a work environment that recruits, retains and supports quality staff and volunteers.
Supervise financial planning, forecasting, and analytical activities, ensuring alignment of financial plan with overall vision, strategy and short and long-term goals.
-Foster effective teamwork with the Board of Directors and between the Board and staff.
-Work with the Board of Directors and management team to drive and implement the strategic plan and vision of Aviva.
-Solidify service delivery within current agency vision and facilitate discussion and deliberation on new opportunities and policymaking.
-In partnership with the staff, develop, quantify and measure key programming metrics and provide detailed analysis of results for improved services.
-Foster effective teamwork with the Board of Directors focusing attention on long-range strategic issues.
-Inform Board on industry developments and working as a team, update management, governance, and fund development to adapt to new programming.
-In collaboration with Board of Directors and development team, lead all fundraising efforts.
-Update existing fundraising plan to attract new donors, increase major gifts, and prospect for new corporate and foundation support.
-Create and cultivate relationships with new donors and prospective Board members.
-Serve as chief spokesperson for Aviva.
-Act as an advocate, within both public and private sectors, for services and constituencies relevant to Aviva.
-Meet with participants, volunteers, donors and the greater community to improve services and generate community involvement.
-A minimum of 10 years’ experience in progressively responsible roles within a nonprofit agency.
-A business mindset with a proven track record managing a strategic planning process, resulting in improved efficiency, program effectiveness, and sustainability of organizational budget.
-Familiarity in the fields of Mental Health, Trauma, Foster Care, and Homelessness.
-Knowledge and experience working with homeless services, strongly preferred.
-Experience working with the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services and Department of Mental Health or similar agency strongly preferred.
-Demonstrated fundraising success with individual donors, foundations and corporate partnerships resulting in overall organizational growth.
-Demonstrated commitment to continued professional growth and development of employees and Board members.
