CREATE ·2023 Grants ChallengeYouthSource: Securing Economic Advancement through Education
In partnership with Los Angeles Unified School District and the City of Los Angeles Economic and Workforce Development Department, Para Los Ninos (PLN) YouthSource Centers reengage low-income, BIPOC youth in school and the workforce to set them on a path to economic independence and sustainability. With support from LA2050, PLN will provide Angelenos ages 14 to 24 with comprehensive academic and occupational supports, focusing on drop-out recovery and prevention, college access, and vocational training.
LEARN ·2015 Grants ChallengeEngaging Parents to Reduce Truancy Rates
Truancy is defined as a student being absent or tardy by more than 30 minutes without a valid excuse on 3 occasions in a school year, and we intend to reduce the truancy rate by 10% at our two charter schools that operate in Skid Row. We propose a three-pronged collaborative approach to addressing chronic absence and truancy: 1) changes in school attendance practices; 2) home visitation; and 3) parent engagement and leadership opportunities for our enrolled families.
